押沙龙逃亡，走到基述王亚米忽的儿子达买那里去了。大卫天天为他的儿子哀伤。押沙龙逃亡，逃到基述那里去，在那里住了三年。

并且许愿，说：“万军之耶和华啊，你若是看顾使女的困苦，记念我，不忘记你的使女，赐给使女一个儿子，我就必把他一生献给耶和华，不剃他的头。”

“他们弯曲舌头，像弯弓一样；在这地得势的是虚谎，不是诚实；因为他们变本加厉地作恶，连我也不认识。”这是耶和华的宣告。“你们各人要提防自己的邻舍，不要信靠兄弟；因为每一个兄弟都在欺骗人，每一个邻舍都搬弄是非。他们各人都欺骗自己的邻舍，不说诚实话。他们训练自己的舌头说谎话，竭力作孽，以致他们不能回转（按照《马索拉文本》，本句意思难确定；现参照《七十士译本》翻译）。

你向神许了愿，就不可迟迟不还，因为他不喜悦愚昧人；所许的愿必须偿还。

撒母耳说：“我怎能去呢？扫罗听见了，必定杀我。”耶和华说：“你可以带一头母牛犊去，就说：‘我来是要向耶和华献祭。’

如果你们认为事奉耶和华不好，那么今日你们就可以选择你们所要事奉的：是你们列祖在大河那边事奉的神呢，还是你们现在所住亚摩利人之地的神呢？至于我和我家，我们必事奉耶和华。”

于是约押起来，往基述去，把押沙龙带回耶路撒冷。

你们实在自己欺骗自己，因为是你们委派我去见耶和华你们的神，你们说：‘请为我们向耶和华我们的神祷告；无论耶和华我们的神说什么，你都要告诉我们，我们就必照着去作。’

押沙龙回答约押：“看哪，我派人去见你，说：‘请你到这里来，我要托你去见王，替我说：“我为什么从基述回来呢？我若是还留在那边，会觉得更好。”’现在，我要见王的面，如果我有罪，任由他把我杀死好了。”

因为你们曾说：“我们与死亡立了约，与阴间结了盟；刑罚的鞭子扫过的时候，必不会碰到我们，因为我们以谎言作遮蔽，以虚假作庇护。”

神啊！我要偿还我向你所许的愿，我要把感谢祭献给你。
