他說：「孩子還活著的時候，我禁食、哭泣，是因為我想：『誰知道呢，或許耶和華會恩待我，讓孩子得以存活。』

曰、子尚生時、我之禁食哭泣、蓋曰、耶和華或施恩於我、俾子生存、未可知也、

曰子生存之日、我禁食哭泣者、蓋望上帝施恩、使子得保其生耳。

He answered,“ While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought,‘ Who knows? The Lord may be gracious to me and let the child live.’

He answered,“ While the child was still alive, I didn’t eat anything. And I cried a lot. I thought,‘ Who knows? The Lord might have mercy on me. He might let the child live.’

David replied,“ I fasted and wept while the child was alive, for I said,‘ Perhaps the Lord will be gracious to me and let the child live.’

He replied,“ While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept because I thought,‘ Perhaps the LORD will show pity and the child will live.

In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said,“ This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord,“ Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. “ Go and tell Hezekiah,‘ This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life. (niv)

Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. (niv)

Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord. (niv)

Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish.”When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened. (niv)

Who knows? He may turn and relent and leave behind a blessing— grain offerings and drink offerings for the Lord your God. (niv)

Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph. (niv)

The captain went to him and said,“ How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us so that we will not perish.” (niv)
