大衛說：『孩子還活着時、我禁食哭泣，因為我心裏說：「誰知道永恆主不恩待我、使孩子活着呢？」

他說：「孩子還活著的時候，我禁食、哭泣，是因為我想：『誰知道呢，或許耶和華會恩待我，讓孩子得以存活。』

曰、子尚生時、我之禁食哭泣、蓋曰、耶和華或施恩於我、俾子生存、未可知也、

曰子生存之日、我禁食哭泣者、蓋望上帝施恩、使子得保其生耳。

He answered,“ While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I thought,‘ Who knows? The Lord may be gracious to me and let the child live.’

He answered,“ While the child was still alive, I didn’t eat anything. And I cried a lot. I thought,‘ Who knows? The Lord might have mercy on me. He might let the child live.’

David replied,“ I fasted and wept while the child was alive, for I said,‘ Perhaps the Lord will be gracious to me and let the child live.’

He answered,“ While the baby was alive, I fasted and wept because I thought,‘ Who knows? The LORD may be gracious to me and let him live.’

And he said,“ While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept; for I said,‘ Who knows, the Lord may be gracious to me, and the child may live.’

And he said,“ While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said,‘ Who can tell whether the Lord will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’

And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who knoweth whether Jehovah will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?

He answered,“ While the baby was alive, I fasted and wept because I thought,‘ Who knows? The Lord may be gracious to me and let him live.’

And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell[ whether] GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?

He replied,“ While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept because I thought,‘ Perhaps the LORD will show pity and the child will live.

He said,“ While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said,‘ Who knows whether Yahweh will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’

In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him,“ Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order, for you shall die, you shall not recover.”Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord,and said,“ Please, O Lord, remember how I have walked before you in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

“ Go and say to Hezekiah, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.

Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

Consecrate a fast; call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord.

Who knows? God may turn and relent and turn from his fierce anger, so that we may not perish.”When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it.

Who knows whether he will not turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, a grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord your God?

Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

So the captain came and said to him,“ What do you mean, you sleeper? Arise, call out to your god! Perhaps the god will give a thought to us, that we may not perish.”
