They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity— for“ people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.”

耶穌對曰：『予剴切語爾、凡犯罪者、即罪之奴、

豈不知爾向誰氏心悅誠服、而自獻為僕、即為誰氏之僕、應惟其命是從。將從罪以致死乎？抑從善以成義乎？然而賴天主洪恩爾等嚮雖為罪之僕、今已心悅誠服、以就脫爾於罪之教範、既脫於罪、則為正義之僕矣。今爾等靈修未深、請以庸言明之。正如爾等曩日曾以爾之四肢百體、為邪淫不法之僕、以滋罪惡；今望爾等以四肢百體、為正義之僕、以登聖域也。蓋當爾為罪之僕、於正義則漫無約束。試一思之、爾昔日所行、今日所恥之種切、於爾究有何益？死亡為其必然之結果！今既從罪中解放、而獲自由、且為天主之僕矣、則應勉結聖德之果、而止於永生。

今兄弟等已蒙召而獲自由矣惟勿以自由為名、而行其放縱恣肆之實；務望以仁愛之精神、而彼此互相服務也。

爾固宜為自由之人、胸中灑脫、無所拘礙；然萬勿以自由為名、而行其放縱恣肆、犯上作亂之實。當為天主之忠僕、

夫基督之予吾人以解放也、其非欲吾人享受自由乎？故吾儕當確立不移、不宜妄自菲薄、復入奴隸之軛也。

蓋吾人從前亦昏昧悖逆、徬徨岐途、縱情恣慾、險狠媢嫉；己實可惡、而轉以惡人。

毋使罪孽乘權於爾必死之肉身、以致縱情恣慾；亦毋將爾四肢百體、獻之於罪、以作不義之器。務須獻身於天主、一若新自死中復活也者；如是則爾之四肢百體、乃成為昭事天主之義器、且罪亦不能為爾之主矣。無他、爾不隸於法而隸於恩故耳。

改過遷善、自拔於妖魔之羅網、而脫其拘係。

夫既因認識吾主耶穌基督、而脫濁世之習氣、今復重入羅網、從此休矣！且其晚節必有較前更醜者焉。
