So Samuel did what the Lord told him, and he came to Bethlehem. Then the elders of the city came trembling to meet him and said,“ Do you come in peace?”

So he said,“ You yourself know that the kingdom was mine and that all Israel intended for me to be king; however, the kingdom has turned around and become my brother’s, for it was his from the Lord.

For this is what the Lord says to me:“ Go, station the lookout, have him report what he sees.When he sees a column of chariots, horsemen in pairs, A train of donkeys, a train of camels, He is to pay close attention, very close attention.”Then the lookout called,“ Lord, I stand continually by day on the watchtower, And I am stationed every night at my guard post.Now behold, here comes a troop of riders, horsemen in pairs.” And one said,“ Fallen, fallen is Babylon; And all the images of her gods are shattered on the ground.”

And whatever house you enter, first say,‘ Peace be to this house.’And if a man of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you.

“ Son of man, speak to the sons of your people and say to them,‘ If I bring a sword upon a land, and the people of the land take one man from among them and make him their watchman,and he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the horn and warns the people,then someone who hears the sound of the horn but does not take warning, and a sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be on his own head.He heard the sound of the horn but did not take warning; his blood will be on himself. But had he taken warning, he would have saved his life.But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the horn and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away for his wrongdoing; but I will require his blood from the watchman’s hand.’“ Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth and give them a warning from Me.When I say to the wicked,‘ You wicked person, you will certainly die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked about his way, that wicked person shall die for his wrongdoing, but I will require his blood from your hand.But if you on your part warn a wicked person to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die for his wrongdoing, but you have saved your life.

Then he sent a second horseman, and he came to them and said,“ This is what the king says:‘ Is your intention peace?’ ” And Jehu answered,“ How is peace any business of yours? Turn and follow me.”

On your walls, Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; All day and all night they will never keep silent. You who profess the Lord, take no rest for yourselves;
