There was a great famine in the city; the siege lasted so long that a donkey’s head sold for eighty shekels of silver, and a quarter of a cab of seed pods for five shekels.

There wasn’t enough food anywhere in the city. It was surrounded for so long that people had to weigh out two pounds of silver for a donkey’s head. They had to weigh out two ounces of silver for half a pint of seed pods.

And there was a great famine in Samaria, as they besieged it, until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and the fourth part of a kab of dove’s dung for five shekels of silver.

As a result, there was a great famine in the city. The siege lasted so long that a donkey’s head sold for eighty pieces of silver, and a cup of dove’s dung sold for five pieces of silver.

So there was a severe famine in Samaria, and they continued the siege against it until a donkey’s head sold for thirty-four ounces of silver, and a cup of dove’s dung sold for two ounces of silver.

And there was a great famine in Samaria; and indeed they besieged it until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and one-fourth of a kab of dove droppings for five shekels of silver.

If I go out to the country, There are those killed by the sword! Or if I enter the city, There are diseases from famine! For both prophet and priest Have wandered around in the land that they do not know.’ ”

Behold, the assault ramps have reached the city to take it; and the city has been handed over to the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, the famine, and the plague; and what You have spoken has come to pass; and behold, You see it.

Then the king said to her,“ What is on your mind?” And she said,“ This woman said to me,‘ Give your son so that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.’So we cooked my son and ate him; and I said to her on the next day,‘ Give your son, so that we may eat him’; but she has hidden her son.”

But I said,“ Oh, Lord God! Behold, the prophets are telling them,‘ You will not see a sword, nor will you have famine; on the contrary, I will give you lasting peace in this place.’ ”Then the Lord said to me,“ The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them, nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divination, futility, and the deception of their own minds.Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, although it was not I who sent them— yet they keep saying:‘ There will be no sword or famine in this land’— by sword and famine those prophets shall meet their end!

On the ninth day of the fourth month the famine was so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land.

If we say,‘ We will enter the city,’ then the famine is in the city and we will die there; but if we sit here, we will also die. Now then come, and let’s go over to the camp of the Arameans. If they spare us, we will live; and if they kill us, then we will die.”

When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will bring back your bread in rationed amounts, so that you will eat and not be satisfied.

On the ninth day of the fourth month the famine was so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land.

Then the Lord said,“ In this way the sons of Israel will eat their bread unclean among the nations where I will scatter them.”But I said,“ Oh, Lord God! Behold, I have never been defiled; for from my youth until now I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by animals, nor has any unclean meat ever entered my mouth!”Then He said to me,“ See, I will give you cow’s dung in place of human dung, so that you may prepare your bread over it.”Moreover, He said to me,“ Son of man, behold, I am going to break the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they will eat bread by weight and with anxiety, and drink water by measure and in horror,

So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab. Now the famine was severe in Samaria.
