其僕進而謂之曰、我父歟、先知若命爾行一大事、爾豈不行之、況僅言沐浴而得潔乎、

其從者至前、告曰、我主歟、如先知以難成之事使爾、爾豈有所不為、況彼第言、濯身而成潔乎。

Naaman’s servants went to him and said,“ My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you,‘ Wash and be cleansed’!”

Naaman’s servants went over to him. They said,“ You are like a father to us. What if Elisha the prophet had told you to do some great thing? Wouldn’t you have done it? But he only said,‘ Wash yourself. Then you will be pure and“ clean.” ’ You should be even more willing to do that!”

But his servants came near and said to him,“ My father, it is a great word the prophet has spoken to you; will you not do it? Has he actually said to you,‘ Wash, and be clean’?”

But his officers tried to reason with him and said,“ Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something very difficult, wouldn’t you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply,‘ Go and wash and be cured!’”

But his servants approached and said to him,“ My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more should you do it when he only tells you,‘ Wash and be clean’?”

Then his servants approached and spoke to him, saying,“ My father, had the prophet told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you,‘ Wash, and be clean’?”

When the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha,“ My father, should I kill them? I will kill them.”

As Elisha watched, he kept crying out,“ My father, my father, the chariots and horsemen of Israel!” Then he never saw Elijah again. He took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces.

When Elisha became sick with the illness that he died from, Jehoash king of Israel went down and wept over him and said,“ My father, my father, the chariots and horsemen of Israel!”

But Ebed-melech, a Cushite court official employed in the king’s palace, heard Jeremiah had been put into the cistern. While the king was sitting at the Benjamin Gate,Ebed-melech went from the king’s palace and spoke to the king:“ My lord the king, these men have been evil in all they have done to Jeremiah the prophet. They have dropped him into the cistern where he will die from hunger, because there is no more bread in the city.”So the king commanded Ebed-melech, the Cushite,“ Take from here 30 men under your authority and pull Jeremiah the prophet up from the cistern before he dies.”

But it is a spirit in man and the breath of the Almighty that give him understanding.It is not only the old who are wise or the elderly who understand how to judge.
