Then he took his firstborn son, who was to succeed him as king, and offered him as a sacrifice on the city wall. The fury against Israel was great; they withdrew and returned to their own land.

Then the king of Moab took his oldest son. He was the son who would become the next king of Moab. But the king offered his son as a sacrifice on the city wall. That shocked and terrified the men of Israel. So they pulled back and returned to their own land.

Then he took his oldest son who was to reign in his place and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. And there came great wrath against Israel. And they withdrew from him and returned to their own land.

耶和華喜悅千千的公羊，或是萬萬的油河嗎？為我的過犯，我可以獻上我的長子嗎？為我的罪惡，獻上我親生的孩子嗎？

你不可向耶和華你的神這樣行，因為耶和華恨惡的一切可厭惡的事，他們都向他們的神行了，甚至把自己的兒女用火焚燒，獻給他們的神。

我從亞捫人那裡平平安安回來的時候，無論誰先從我的家門出來迎接我，他就必歸耶和華，我也必把他當作燔祭。”

你更把你的兒女，就是你給我所生的兒女，獻給它們作食物；你所行的淫亂還算是小事嗎？

“耶和華這樣說：‘摩押三番四次犯罪，我必不收回懲罰他的命令；因為他把以東王的骸骨焚燒成灰。

他們把自己的兒女祭祀鬼魔。他們流了無辜人的血，就是他們自己兒女的血，把他們祭祀迦南的偶像；那地就被血污穢了。

掃羅說：“我們趁著晚上下去追趕非利士人，搶掠他們，直到天亮，不讓他們留下一人。”他們說：“你看怎麼好，就怎麼行吧！”但祭司說：“我們先在這裡親近神！”掃羅求問神：“我可以下去追趕非利士人嗎？你把他們交在以色列人的手裡嗎？”那天神沒有回答他。掃羅說：“民間的眾領袖啊，你們都要走近這裡來；你們要查看今天我們犯了甚麼罪。我指著拯救以色列、永活的耶和華起誓，即使是我的兒子約拿單犯了罪，他也一定要死。”眾人中沒有一人回答他。於是掃羅對以色列眾人說：“你們站在這裡，我和我的兒子約拿單站在那邊。”眾民回答掃羅：“你看怎麼好，就怎麼行吧！”掃羅禱告耶和華以色列的神說：“求你指示實情！”於是抽籤，抽中了約拿單和掃羅；眾民都沒事。掃羅說：“你們再抽籤，看是我，或是我的兒子約拿單。”結果抽中約拿單。掃羅對約拿單說：“告訴我，你作了甚麼事？”約拿單告訴他：“我用我手中的杖頭嘗了一點蜂蜜。我在這裡，我願意死！”掃羅說：“約拿單啊！你必定要死，否則，願神加倍懲罰我。”眾民對掃羅說：“約拿單在以色列人中行了這樣大的拯救，難道一定要他死嗎？絕對不可以！我們指著永活的耶和華起誓，連他一根頭髮也不可落在地上，因為他今天是與神一同作工。”這樣，眾民救了約拿單，使他免了一死。掃羅上去，不再追趕非利士人；非利士人也回到自己的地方去了。

於是以色列王悶悶不樂回到撒瑪利亞，自己的王宮裡去了。

神說：“帶著你的兒子，就是你所愛的獨生子以撒，到摩利亞地去，在我所要指示你的一座山上，把他獻為燔祭。”

兩個月後，她回到她的父親那裡，她父親就照他所許的願向她行了。她沒有與男人同過房。以後，在以色列中有個慣例：

這時，忽然有一個先知前來見以色列王亞哈，說：“耶和華這樣說：‘你看見這些強大的軍兵嗎？看啊，今天我必把他們交在你手裡，你就知道我是耶和華。’”

亞伯拉罕舉目觀望，看見在後面有一隻公綿羊，兩角扣在稠密的小樹叢中；亞伯拉罕就去取了那隻公綿羊，把牠獻為燔祭，代替自己的兒子。

有一位神人前來對以色列王說：“耶和華這樣說：‘因為亞蘭人說耶和華是山神，不是平原的神，所以我要把這些強大的軍兵交在你手裡，你們就知道我是耶和華。’”
