Then he took his firstborn son, who was to succeed him as king, and offered him as a sacrifice on the city wall. The fury against Israel was great; they withdrew and returned to their own land.

Then the king of Moab took his oldest son. He was the son who would become the next king of Moab. But the king offered his son as a sacrifice on the city wall. That shocked and terrified the men of Israel. So they pulled back and returned to their own land.

Then he took his oldest son who was to reign in his place and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. And there came great wrath against Israel. And they withdrew from him and returned to their own land.

耶和华喜悦千千的公羊，或是万万的油河吗？为我的过犯，我可以献上我的长子吗？为我的罪恶，献上我亲生的孩子吗？

你不可向耶和华你的神这样行，因为耶和华恨恶的一切可厌恶的事，他们都向他们的神行了，甚至把自己的儿女用火焚烧，献给他们的神。

我从亚扪人那里平平安安回来的时候，无论谁先从我的家门出来迎接我，他就必归耶和华，我也必把他当作燔祭。”

你更把你的儿女，就是你给我所生的儿女，献给它们作食物；你所行的淫乱还算是小事吗？

“耶和华这样说：‘摩押三番四次犯罪，我必不收回惩罚他的命令；因为他把以东王的骸骨焚烧成灰。

他们把自己的儿女祭祀鬼魔。他们流了无辜人的血，就是他们自己儿女的血，把他们祭祀迦南的偶像；那地就被血污秽了。

扫罗说：“我们趁着晚上下去追赶非利士人，抢掠他们，直到天亮，不让他们留下一人。”他们说：“你看怎么好，就怎么行吧！”但祭司说：“我们先在这里亲近神！”扫罗求问神：“我可以下去追赶非利士人吗？你把他们交在以色列人的手里吗？”那天神没有回答他。扫罗说：“民间的众领袖啊，你们都要走近这里来；你们要查看今天我们犯了什么罪。我指着拯救以色列、永活的耶和华起誓，即使是我的儿子约拿单犯了罪，他也一定要死。”众人中没有一人回答他。于是扫罗对以色列众人说：“你们站在这里，我和我的儿子约拿单站在那边。”众民回答扫罗：“你看怎么好，就怎么行吧！”扫罗祷告耶和华以色列的神说：“求你指示实情！”于是抽签，抽中了约拿单和扫罗；众民都没事。扫罗说：“你们再抽签，看是我，或是我的儿子约拿单。”结果抽中约拿单。扫罗对约拿单说：“告诉我，你作了什么事？”约拿单告诉他：“我用我手中的杖头尝了一点蜂蜜。我在这里，我愿意死！”扫罗说：“约拿单啊！你必定要死，否则，愿神加倍惩罚我。”众民对扫罗说：“约拿单在以色列人中行了这样大的拯救，难道一定要他死吗？绝对不可以！我们指着永活的耶和华起誓，连他一根头发也不可落在地上，因为他今天是与神一同作工。”这样，众民救了约拿单，使他免了一死。扫罗上去，不再追赶非利士人；非利士人也回到自己的地方去了。

于是以色列王闷闷不乐回到撒玛利亚，自己的王宫里去了。

神说：“带着你的儿子，就是你所爱的独生子以撒，到摩利亚地去，在我所要指示你的一座山上，把他献为燔祭。”

两个月后，她回到她的父亲那里，她父亲就照他所许的愿向她行了。她没有与男人同过房。以后，在以色列中有个惯例：

这时，忽然有一个先知前来见以色列王亚哈，说：“耶和华这样说：‘你看见这些强大的军兵吗？看啊，今天我必把他们交在你手里，你就知道我是耶和华。’”

亚伯拉罕举目观望，看见在后面有一只公绵羊，两角扣在稠密的小树丛中；亚伯拉罕就去取了那只公绵羊，把它献为燔祭，代替自己的儿子。

有一位神人前来对以色列王说：“耶和华这样说：‘因为亚兰人说耶和华是山神，不是平原的神，所以我要把这些强大的军兵交在你手里，你们就知道我是耶和华。’”
