Then he took his firstborn son, who was to succeed him as king, and offered him as a sacrifice on the city wall. The fury against Israel was great; they withdrew and returned to their own land.

耶和华会喜爱成千的公羊和万条油河吗？我要因过犯而献上自己的长子，因心中的罪恶而献上亲生的骨肉吗？

你们不可按照他们的方式敬拜你们的上帝耶和华。他们祭拜自己神明的种种行为令耶和华憎恶，他们甚至焚烧自己的儿女献给他们的神明。

让我凯旋而归，第一个从我家门出来迎接我的人必归给你，我必把他献给你作燔祭。”

你还把你给我生的儿女烧作燔祭献给偶像。难道你淫乱还不够吗？

耶和华说：“摩押人三番四次地犯罪，我必不收回对他们的惩罚，因为他们把以东王的骸骨焚烧成灰。

他们把自己的儿女当祭物献给鬼魔，他们把自己的儿女献给迦南的神像作祭物，流他们儿女无辜的血，玷污了那地方。

他对以色列人说：“让我们连夜追赶非利士人，抢夺他们的财物，直到天亮，把他们全部歼灭。”众人答道：“就照你的意思。”但祭司说：“让我们先来求问上帝吧。”于是，扫罗求问上帝，说：“耶和华啊，我们可以去追杀非利士人吗？你会把他们交在以色列人手里吗？”但耶和华那日没有回答他。扫罗说：“你们这些百姓的首领到这里来，我们要查出今天究竟谁犯了罪，我凭拯救以色列的永活的耶和华起誓，就是我儿子约拿单犯了罪，他也要死！”众人都默不作声。扫罗对以色列众人说：“你们站在这边，我和我的儿子约拿单站在那边。”众人答道：“就照你的意思。”扫罗向以色列的上帝耶和华祷告说：“请你把实情告诉我吧。”抽签的结果是约拿单和扫罗犯了罪，民众都是无辜的。扫罗和约拿单二人再抽签，结果抽出了约拿单。扫罗对约拿单说：“告诉我，你做了什么事？”约拿单说：“我只不过用手中的杖蘸了一点蜂蜜吃，就得死吗？”扫罗说：“约拿单啊，你必须死。否则，愿上帝重重地惩罚我。”但众人对扫罗说：“今天约拿单给以色列人带来这么大的胜利，难道要他死吗？绝对不可以！我们凭永活的耶和华起誓，绝不可动他一根头发，因为他今天的行动有上帝的帮助。”众人就这样救了约拿单的性命。扫罗便停止了追击，非利士人也回本地去了。

以色列王闷闷不乐地回撒玛利亚的王宫去了。

上帝说：“带着你的儿子，你的独生子，你疼爱的以撒前往摩利亚，在我指示你的山上把他献为燔祭。”

两个月后，她回到父亲那里。她父亲履行了自己所许的愿。她终身未嫁。自此以后，在以色列有个习俗：

一位先知来见以色列王亚哈，说：“耶和华说，‘你看见这大队人马了吗？今天我必将他们交在你手里，这样你就知道我是耶和华。’”

这时亚伯拉罕抬起头来，突然看见有一只公绵羊两角卡在稠密的树丛中，于是把羊取来代替他的儿子献为燔祭。

有位上帝的仆人来见以色列王，说：“耶和华说，‘亚兰人以为我耶和华是山神，不是平原的神，所以我必将这大队人马交在你手里，这样你们就知道我是耶和华。’”
