耶戶召集眾百姓，對他們說：「亞哈事奉巴力還不夠熱心，耶戶更要熱心。

你不可跪拜事奉他們的神明，也不可隨從他們的習俗，卻要徹底廢除，完全打碎他們的柱像。

他犯了尼八的兒子耶羅波安所犯的罪，還當作是小事，又娶了西頓王謁巴力的女兒耶洗別為妻，去事奉巴力，敬拜它，又在撒瑪利亞建巴力廟，在廟裏為巴力築壇。亞哈又造亞舍拉，他所做的惹耶和華－以色列的上帝發怒，比他以前所有的以色列王更嚴重。

耶洗別王后來對他說：「你為甚麼心裏這樣生氣，不吃飯呢？」他對王后說：「我向耶斯列人拿伯說：『把你的葡萄園按價錢賣給我，或是你願意，我可以把別的葡萄園換給你。』他卻說：『我不把我的葡萄園給你。』」耶洗別王后對王說：「你現在是不是治理以色列國呢？只管起來，心裏暢暢快快地吃飯，我會把耶斯列人拿伯的葡萄園給你。」於是王后以亞哈的名義寫信，蓋上王的印，把信送給那些與拿伯同城居住的長老和貴族。她在信上寫着說：「你們當宣告禁食，叫拿伯坐在百姓的高位上，又叫兩個無賴坐在拿伯對面，作證告他說：『你詛咒了上帝和王。』然後把他拉出去用石頭打死。」那些與拿伯同城居住的長老和貴族，照耶洗別送給他們的信去做。正如她送的信上所寫，他們宣告禁食，叫拿伯坐在百姓的高位上。有兩個無賴來，坐在拿伯對面。無賴當着百姓作證告他說：「拿伯詛咒上帝和王了！」眾人就把他拉到城外，用石頭打他，他就死了。於是他們派人到耶洗別那裏，說：「拿伯被石頭打死了。」耶洗別聽見拿伯被石頭打死，就對亞哈說：「你起來，去取得耶斯列人拿伯不肯出價賣給你的葡萄園吧！因為拿伯不在了，他已經死了。」

亞哈對以利亞說：「我的仇敵啊，你找到我了嗎？」他說：「我找到你了。因為你出賣自己，行了耶和華眼中看為惡的事。

耶戶進去，吃了喝了，說：「你們去處理這被詛咒的婦人，埋了她，因為她是王的女兒。」

這是因為他犯罪，行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，行耶羅波安所行的道，犯他使以色列陷入罪裏的那罪。

亞們行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，效法他父親瑪拿西所行的。

你為何沒有聽從耶和華的話呢？你為何急着撲向掠物，行耶和華眼中看為惡的事呢？」

王說：「我今日若容許沙法的兒子以利沙的頭還留在他身上，願上帝重重懲罰我！」那時，以利沙正坐在家中，有長老與他同坐。王派一個人先去，使者還沒有到，以利沙對長老說：「你們看，這兇手之子派人來斬我的頭。你們注意，當使者來到，你們就關上門，把他關在門外。在他後頭不就是他主人的腳步聲嗎？」

約蘭見耶戶就說：「耶戶，平安嗎？」耶戶說：「你母親耶洗別的淫行邪術這樣多，怎麼能平安呢？」

並使他的兒子經火，又觀星象，行法術，求問招魂的和行巫術的，多行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，惹他發怒。
