When I have cut off your supply of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall bring back your bread by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.

The tongue of the infant clings To the roof of its mouth for thirst; The young children ask for bread, But no one breaks it for them.Those who ate delicacies Are desolate in the streets; Those who were brought up in scarlet Embrace ash heaps.The punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people Is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, Which was overthrown in a moment, With no hand to help her!Her Nazirites were brighter than snow And whiter than milk; They were more ruddy in body than rubies, Like sapphire in their appearance.Now their appearance is blacker than soot; They go unrecognized in the streets; Their skin clings to their bones, It has become as dry as wood.Those slain by the sword are better off Than those who die of hunger; For these pine away, Stricken for lack of the fruits of the field.The hands of the compassionate women Have cooked their own children; They became food for them In the destruction of the daughter of my people.

“ Also take for yourself wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt; put them into one vessel, and make bread of them for yourself. During the number of days that you lie on your side, three hundred and ninety days, you shall eat it.And your food which you eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day; from time to time you shall eat it.You shall also drink water by measure, one-sixth of a hin; from time to time you shall drink.And you shall eat it as barley cakes; and bake it using fuel of human waste in their sight.”Then the Lord said,“ So shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, where I will drive them.”So I said,“ Ah, Lord GOD! Indeed I have never defiled myself from my youth till now; I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has abominable flesh ever come into my mouth.”Then He said to me,“ See, I am giving you cow dung instead of human waste, and you shall prepare your bread over it.”Moreover He said to me,“ Son of man, surely I will cut off the supply of bread in Jerusalem; they shall eat bread by weight and with anxiety, and shall drink water by measure and with dread,that they may lack bread and water, and be dismayed with one another, and waste away because of their iniquity.

Therefore fathers shall eat their sons in your midst, and sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments among you, and all of you who remain I will scatter to all the winds.

Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah to the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread from the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city was gone. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

“ Thus says the Lord of hosts:‘ The fast of the fourth month, The fast of the fifth, The fast of the seventh, And the fast of the tenth, Shall be joy and gladness and cheerful feasts For the house of Judah. Therefore love truth and peace.’

In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the city was penetrated.
