Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

Because they have forsaken me and burned incense to other gods and aroused my anger by all the idols their hands have made, my anger will burn against this place and will not be quenched.’

That’s because the people have deserted me. They have burned incense to other gods. They have made me very angry because of the statues of gods their hands have made. So my anger will burn like a fire against this place. And the fire of my anger will not be put out.’ ” ’

Hath a nation changed[ their] gods, which[ are] yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for[ that which] doth not profit.Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters,[ and] hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?

Saying to a stock, Thou[ art] my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned[ their] back unto me, and not[ their] face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.But where[ are] thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for[ according to] the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him.And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.

But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,And shed innocent blood,[ even] the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.

Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest[ them] from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.

Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

To whom will ye liken me, and make[ me] equal, and compare me, that we may be like?They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance,[ and] hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship.They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea,[ one] shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble.Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring[ it] again to mind, O ye transgressors.

Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what[ meaneth] the heat of this great anger?Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt:For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and[ whom] he had not given unto them:And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book:And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as[ it is] this day.

But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden, even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.

And the residue thereof he maketh a god,[ even] his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth[ it], and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou[ art] my god.They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see;[ and] their hearts, that they cannot understand.And none considereth in his heart, neither[ is there] knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten[ it]: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say,[ Is there] not a lie in my right hand?

Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not.

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves.Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushanrishathaim eight years.

And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that[ were] round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

Therefore now go, lead the people unto[ the place] of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

[ But] if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments[ and] my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:And at this house,[ which] is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house?And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil.

And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.And the LORD said unto the children of Israel,[ Did] not[ I deliver you] from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.

But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till[ there was] no remedy.

Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.

And he forsook the LORD God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of the LORD.

Their idols[ are] silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.They that make them are like unto them;[ so is] every one that trusteth in them.

But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered[ with fatness]; then he forsook God[ which] made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.They provoked him to jealousy with strange[ gods], with abominations provoked they him to anger.They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new[ gods that] came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.Of the Rock[ that] begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.And when the LORD saw[ it], he abhorred[ them], because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.

For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
