In King Hezekiah’s fourth year, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria marched against Samaria and laid siege to it.

Shalmaneser marched to Samaria and surrounded it. It was in the fourth year of King Hezekiah. That was the seventh year of Hoshea, the king of Israel. Hoshea was the son of Elah. Shalmaneser was king of Assyria.

In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it,

During the fourth year of Hezekiah’s reign, which was the seventh year of King Hoshea’s reign in Israel, King Shalmaneser of Assyria attacked the city of Samaria and began a siege against it.

因此在你眾族人中必起了鬨嚷，你一切有堡壘的城必被毁壞，就如沙勒幔在爭戰的日子毁壞伯亞比勒，有做母親的跟兒女一同被摔死那樣。

以色列王以拉的兒子何細亞三年、猶大王亞哈斯的兒子希西家登極作王。

亞述王撒縵以色上來攻擊何細亞，何細亞就臣服他，給他進貢。何細亞反叛了，差遣使者去見埃及王西威、卻不照年年所行的、給亞述王獻上貢物；亞述王發覺了，就捉拿他，鎖禁在監獄裏。亞述王上來，走遍以色列地，上到撒瑪利亞，把它圍困了三年。何細亞九年、亞述王攻取了撒瑪利亞，使以色列人流亡到亞述，住在哈臘和歌散的哈博河邊、跟瑪代人的城市。這是因為以色列人犯罪得罪了那領他們從埃及地上來、使他們脫離埃及王法老手下的、永恆主他們的上帝、去敬畏別的神，隨從永恆主從以色列人面前所驅逐的外國人的規例、和以色列諸王所立的條規。以色列人暗暗地行了不對的事、違背永恆主他們的上帝，在他們所有的城市、從瞭望人的譙樓、到有堡壘的城、他們都築了邱壇；又在各高岡上、各茂盛樹下、立了崇拜柱子和亞舍拉神木；就在那裏在邱壇上燻祭，正像永恆主從他們面前所擄走的外國人所行的一樣；他們又行壞事來惹永恆主發怒；並服事偶像、就是永恆主曾對他們說：『不可行這事』的。但是永恆主由眾神言人眾先見者經手、屢次警諭以色列人和猶大人說：『應當轉離你們罪的壞行徑，謹守我的誡命律例，照我一切的律法去行，就是我所吩咐你們列祖、並由我僕人神言人們經手傳給你們的。』他們卻不聽，竟硬着脖子，像他們那些不信服永恆主他們的上帝、的列祖硬着脖子一樣；他們棄絕了永恆主的律例和他跟他們列祖所立的約，又棄絕了他所警諭他們的話，去隨從虛無的神，而成為虛妄，又隨從他們四圍的外國人、就是永恆主曾吩咐不可照他們的樣子行的。他們撇棄了永恆主他們的上帝一切的誡命，竟為自己造了兩個牛犢的鑄像，又造了亞舍拉神木，去敬拜天上的萬象，又事奉巴力。他們將自己的兒女用火燒獻為祭，又占卜，又觀兆頭，又出賣自己、去行永恆主所看為壞的事，而惹他發怒。因此永恆主很惱怒以色列人，便將他們從自己面前除掉，只剩下猶大一個族派而已。猶大人也這樣；不謹守永恆主他們的上帝的誡命，反而遵行以色列人所立的例。永恆主就棄絕以色列的眾後裔，使他們受苦，把他們交在搶掠他們、的人手中，直到將他們丟掉離開自己面前。因為他撕裂了以色列離開猶大家；他們卻立了尼八的兒子耶羅波安作王。耶羅波安勾引了以色列人、使他們不隨從永恆主、而使他們犯了大罪。以色列人行耶羅波安所犯的一切罪，總不離開；直到永恆主將以色列人從自己面前除掉；正如他由他的眾僕人神言人們經手所說的話。這樣、以色列人就從本地流亡到亞述去，直到今日還在那裏。
