看哪！亚述曾是黎巴嫩的香柏树，枝条秀美，林影茂密，树身高大，树顶在茂密的枝叶之上。众水使它长大，深渊使它长高；有江河从深渊流出环绕它栽种之地，又有支流延到田间的众树。因此，它树身高大，高过田间的众树；它发旺生长的时候，因为水源丰足，所以枝子繁多，枝条长长。空中的飞鸟都在枝上搭窝；田野的走兽都在枝条下生产；所有大国都在它的树荫下居住。它树身高大，枝条长长而显得秀美，因为它的根扎在水多的地方。神园中的香柏树不能与它相比，松树比不上它的枝子；枫树也不及它的枝条；神园中所有的树木都比不上它的秀美。我使它因枝条繁多而显得秀美，以致在神的园中，伊甸所有的树木都嫉妒它。“‘因此，主耶和华这样说：因为它树身高大，树顶在茂密的枝叶之上，又因它高大而心骄气傲，

因为耶和华至高者是可敬畏的，他是统治全地的大君王。

你要说：‘主耶和华这样说：埃及王法老啊！我要与你为敌，你这卧在自己河中的大海怪，你曾经说过：“这河是我的，是我自己造的。”

我又听见一个声音，好像一大群人的声音，像众水的声音，又像大雷的声音，说：“哈利路亚！因为主、我们全能的神作王了！

亚述王的臣仆用犹大语，向城墙上的耶路撒冷人民大声呼叫，要惊吓他们，使他们慌乱，好攻取那城。

于是拉伯沙基站着，用犹大语大声呼喊说：“你们要听亚述大王的话，王这样说：‘你们不要被希西家欺骗了，因为他决不能拯救你们；也不要给希西家说服你们倚靠耶和华，说：耶和华必定拯救我们，这城也必不交在亚述王的手中。’不要听希西家的话，因为亚述王这样说：‘你们要与我和好（“与我和好”直译是“向我祝福问安”），出来向我投降，这样各人就可以吃自己葡萄树和无花果树的果子，也可以喝自己井里的水；等到我来的时候，就会把你们领到一个与你们本地一样的地方；就是一个有五谷和新酒的地方，一个有粮食和葡萄园的地方。你们要小心，免得希西家怂恿你们说：耶和华必拯救我们。列国的神有哪一位曾拯救自己的国土脱离亚述王的手呢？
