“‘ Come now, make a bargain with my master, the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses— if you can put riders on them!

“‘ “Go ahead and make a deal with my master, the king of Assyria. I’ll give you 2,000 horses. But only if you can put riders on them!

“ I’ll tell you what! Strike a bargain with my master, the king of Assyria. I will give you 2,000 horses if you can find that many men to ride on them!

“ So now, make a bargain with my master the king of Assyria. I’ll give you two thousand horses if you’re able to supply riders for them!

Now then, come make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to put riders on them!

Will they revive the stones from the heaps of rubbish— stones that are burned?”Now Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said,“ Whatever they build, if even a fox goes up on it, he will break down their stone wall.”Hear, O our God, for we are despised; turn their reproach on their own heads, and give them as plunder to a land of captivity!Do not cover their iniquity, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before You; for they have provoked You to anger before the builders.

Then Ben-Hadad sent to him and said,“ The gods do so to me, and more also, if enough dust is left of Samaria for a handful for each of the people who follow me.”

For he says:“ By the strength of my hand I have done it, And by my wisdom, for I am prudent; Also I have removed the boundaries of the people, And have robbed their treasuries; So I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man.My hand has found like a nest the riches of the people, And as one gathers eggs that are left, I have gathered all the earth; And there was no one who moved his wing, Nor opened his mouth with even a peep.”

And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking.

And the Philistine said to David,“ Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!”
