以色列王約阿施派人去見猶大王亞瑪謝說：“黎巴嫩的蒺藜派人去見黎巴嫩的香柏樹說：‘請你把你的女兒給我的兒子作妻子吧！’後來有黎巴嫩的野獸經過，就把蒺藜踩倒了。

以色列王約瞎、語使者曰、利巴嫩有荊棘、謂柏香木云、當以爾女妻我子、猝有獸過、荊棘為其蹂躪。

But Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah:“ A thistle in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon,‘ Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ Then a wild beast in Lebanon came along and trampled the thistle underfoot.

But Jehoash, the king of Israel, answered Amaziah, the king of Judah. Jehoash said,“ A thorn bush in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar tree there. The thorn bush said,‘ Give your daughter to be married to my son.’ Then a wild animal in Lebanon came along. It crushed the thorn bush by walking on it.

And Jehoash king of Israel sent word to Amaziah king of Judah,“ A thistle on Lebanon sent to a cedar on Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son for a wife,’ and a wild beast of Lebanon passed by and trampled down the thistle.

But King Jehoash of Israel replied to King Amaziah of Judah with this story:“ Out in the Lebanon mountains, a thistle sent a message to a mighty cedar tree:‘ Give your daughter in marriage to my son.’ But just then a wild animal of Lebanon came by and stepped on the thistle, crushing it!

King Jehoash of Israel sent word to King Amaziah of Judah, saying,“ The thistle in Lebanon once sent a message to the cedar in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

But Jehoash king of Israel sent messengers to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thorn bush that was in Lebanon sent word to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ But a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thorn bush.

And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as wife’; and a wild beast that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that[ was] in Lebanon sent to the cedar that[ was] in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that[ was] in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.

King Jehoash of Israel sent this message back to King Amaziah of Judah,“ A thornbush in Lebanon sent this message to a cedar in Lebanon,‘ Give your daughter to my son as a wife.’ Then a wild animal of Lebanon came by and trampled down the thorn.

Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying,“ The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying,‘ Give your daughter to my son as wife. Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by, and trampled down the thistle.

有一次，眾樹要去膏立一個王統治它們，就對橄欖樹說：‘請你作王統治我們吧。’橄欖樹對它們說：‘我怎可以放棄生產人用來榮耀神和尊崇人的油，飄搖在眾樹之上呢？’眾樹對無花果樹說：‘請你來作王統治我們吧。’無花果樹對它們說：‘我怎可以放棄結出我的甜美果子，飄搖在眾樹之上呢？’眾樹對葡萄樹說：‘請你來作王統治我們吧。’葡萄樹對它們說：‘我怎可以放棄生產那使神和世人都喜樂的新酒，飄搖在眾樹之上呢？’於是眾樹都對荊棘說：‘請你來作王統治我們吧。’荊棘對眾樹說：‘如果你們真誠地膏立我作王統治你們，就要來，投靠在我的蔭下；否則，火必從荊棘裡出來，吞滅黎巴嫩的香柏樹。’

於是我說：“啊，主耶和華啊！人都指著我說：‘這人不是在說比喻嗎？’”（本章第45~49節在《馬索拉文本》為21:1~5）

以色列人看見自己情況危急，處境窘迫，眾人就藏在山洞、巖穴、地洞裡和地坑之中。

自我幼年時，孤兒與我一同長大，以我為父，從我出母腹以來，我就善待寡婦。

耶和華差派拿單去見大衛。於是拿單來到大衛那裡，對他說：“在一座城裡有兩個人，一個富有，一個貧窮。那富有的有極多牛羊，那貧窮的除了買來養的一隻母羊羔以外，甚麼也沒有。那小羊在他家裡和他的兒女一同長大，小羊吃他的食物，喝他杯中的飲料，睡在他的懷裡，就像他的女兒一樣。有一個旅客來到富翁那裡，他捨不得從自己的牛群羊群中取一頭出來，款待到他那裡來的旅客，卻取了那窮人的母羊羔，款待到他那裡來的客人。”

於是亞瑪謝把那從以法蓮來的雇傭兵解散了，遣送他們回家；因此他們非常惱怒猶大人，就氣沖沖地回家去了。亞瑪謝鼓起勇氣，率領他的人民到鹽谷去，擊殺了一萬西珥人。猶大人又生擒了一萬人，帶到一處崖頂，從崖頂把他們拋下去，使他們都摔得肢離破碎。但亞瑪謝打發回去、不許和他一同作戰的雇傭兵，竟侵入猶大各城，從撒瑪利亞直到伯．和崙，擊殺了三千人，又掠去了很多財物。

因此耶和華領亞述王的將帥來攻打他們，用鈎子鈎著瑪拿西，用銅鍊鎖住他，把他帶到巴比倫去。

看哪！即使他們從毀滅中逃去，埃及要收殮他們，摩弗要埋葬他們。他們珍貴的銀器必為蒺藜所佔有，他們的帳棚必長滿荊棘。

我的佳偶在女子中，正像荊棘裡的百合花。

他講論草木，從黎巴嫩的香柏木到生長在牆上的牛膝草；他也講論走獸、飛禽、爬行的動物和魚類。

以色列王約阿施派人去見猶大王亞瑪謝，說：“黎巴嫩的蒺藜派人去見黎巴嫩的香柏樹，說：‘把你的女兒給我的兒子作妻子吧！’後來有一隻黎巴嫩的野獸從那裡經過，把蒺藜踐踏了。

箴言在愚昧人口中，就像荊棘在醉漢手裡。

以東的宮殿必長荊棘，它的堡壘必長蒺藜和刺草；它要作野狗的住處，作鴕鳥的居所。
