Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, with the challenge:“ Come, let us face each other in battle.”

猶大王亞馬謝、與群臣謀、遣使至以色列王耶戶之孫約哈斯子約轄、曰、汝來以決一戰。以色列王約轄曰利巴嫩有荊棘、謂柏香木云、當以爾女妻我子。猝有獸過、荊棘為其蹂躪。今王既擊以東人、中心驕奢、深居九重、亦可已矣。何為自取其禍、欲與猶大族偕亡。亞馬謝之弗聽、皆出上帝意、因彼宗事以東人上帝、將使彼為敵所敗。以色列王約轄、至猶大之伯示麥、與亞馬謝戰、猶大為以色列所敗、遁歸故土。以色列王約轄、在伯示麥、執猶大王約哈斯孫約轄子亞馬謝、往耶路撒冷、墮其都城、自以法蓮門至邑隅之門、共四十丈。上帝室中、阿別以東所守之金銀器皿、及王宮寶物、盡為所取、亦虜其人為質、歸撒馬利亞。○

亞馬謝弗聽、故以色列王約瞎至猶大之伯示麥、與猶大王亞馬謝戰。

押尼耳謂約押曰、任兩軍之少者戲、我將寓目焉。約押曰、可。益破設臣僕、便雅憫族十二人、與大闢臣僕十二人相角、各執首、以刃相刺、彼此殞沒、後人名其處曰、黑甲哈素林、即在基遍、其名猶存。於是繼以大戰、押尼耳與以色列族、為大闢臣僕所敗。

毋遽與人爭、恐受人辱、計無所施。

慮而後成、思而後戰。

人恃驕泰、多啟爭端、惟聽訓言、可有智慧。

釁隙之開、若江河之潰、故爭競將起、必弭之。

愚者動則啟釁、出言以招禍。
