以色列人也是點閱齊的、並且供備着糧食；他們就去對亞蘭人接戰；以色列人對着亞蘭人紮營，就像兩小羣山羊羔，亞蘭人卻滿地都是。

那時以色列全地找不着一個匠人，因為非利士人說：『恐怕希伯來人製造刀矛。』以色列眾人都下到非利士人那裏各人修打自己的犂頭、耒耜、斧子、鐮刀；所費是一個犂頭或耒耜要一舍客勒銀子的三分之二，一根三齒叉、一個斧子或修整一根犂刺要一舍客勒銀子的三分之一。所以當爭戰的日子、跟隨掃羅和約拿單的人、沒有一個手裏有刀有矛的；惟獨掃羅和他兒子約拿單就有。非利士人的一隊駐防兵出發到了密抹的隘口。

以色列人見自己危急（因為以色列民真地窘迫），就藏在山洞、叢林、碞穴、地窘、或坑井中，或是渡過約但河渡口，到了迦得和基列地。那時掃羅還在吉甲；眾民都震顫發抖、跟從着他。

於是亞哈點閱諸省長的侍從官、有二百三十二名；點了這些人之後、又點閱以色列眾人、所有的兵眾、有七千名。

喧天震地的陣陣羣眾在判決谷裏；因為永恆主的日子臨近了判決谷了。

撒母耳就起身，從吉甲上去，走他的路，其餘的眾民都跟着掃羅上去迎接戰士；他們從吉甲來到便雅憫的基比亞。掃羅點閱所有跟隨他的、約有六百人。

看吧，我必使你成為打穀器，又新、又尖銳、又有雙刃齒；你必將山嶺打碎，而壓成粉，使岡陵如同糠粃。你必簸揚它們，風必帶走，旋風必颳散；但你卻要以永恆主為喜樂，以以色列之聖者為誇耀。

誰激動了一個人從東方而起，使他步步碰到勝利，將列國交在他面前，使他制服君王；使他用刀屠碎他們如塵土，用弓射散他們如碎稭呢？

哈薛說：『我主為甚麼哭呢？』他回答說：『因為我知道你對以色列人所要施的苦害；他們的堡壘你必放火燒，他們的壯丁你必用刀殺戮，他們的嬰孩你必摔死，他們的孕婦你必剖開。』

如今你可以和我的主上亞述王交換打賭的當頭：我給你二千匹馬，看你那一方面能派出足夠的人來騎牠不。

我搗碎他們、如風前的塵土，我把他們倒出、像街上的泥濘。
