耶和华如此说：“大马士革三番四次地犯罪，我必不免去她的刑罚；因为她以打粮食的铁器打过基列。

在那些日子，耶和华才割裂以色列国，使哈薛攻击以色列的境界，

那时，以色列全地没有一个铁匠；因为非利士人说，恐怕希伯来人制造刀枪。以色列人要磨锄、犁、斧、铲，就下到非利士人那里去磨。但有锉可以锉铲、犁、三齿叉、斧子，并赶牛锥。所以到了争战的日子，跟随扫罗和约拿单的人没有一个手里有刀有枪的，惟独扫罗和他儿子约拿单有。非利士人的一队防兵到了密抹的隘口。

以色列百姓见自己危急窘迫，就藏在山洞、丛林、石穴、隐密处，和坑中。有些希伯来人过了约旦河，逃到迦得和基列地。扫罗还是在吉甲，百姓都战战兢兢地跟随他。

于是亚哈数点跟从省长的少年人，共有二百三十二名，后又数点以色列的众兵，共有七千名。

“许多许多的人在断定谷，因为耶和华的日子临近断定谷。

撒母耳就起来，从吉甲上到便雅悯的基比亚。扫罗数点跟随他的，约有六百人。

看哪，我已使你成为有快齿打粮的新器具；你要把山岭打得粉碎，使冈陵如同糠秕。你要把它簸扬，风要吹去；旋风要把它刮散。你倒要以耶和华为喜乐，以以色列的圣者为夸耀。

谁从东方兴起一人，凭公义召他来到脚前呢？耶和华将列国交给他，使他管辖君王，把他们如灰尘交与他的刀，如风吹的碎秸交与他的弓。

哈薛说：“我主为什么哭？”回答说：“因为我知道你必苦害以色列人，用火焚烧他们的保障，用刀杀死他们的壮丁，摔死他们的婴孩，剖开他们的孕妇。”

现在你把当头给我主亚述王，我给你二千匹马，看你这一面骑马的人够不够。

我捣碎他们，如同风前的灰尘，倒出他们，如同街上的泥土。
