yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us.

Now I am happy. I’m not happy because you were made sad. I’m happy because your sadness led you to turn away from your sins. You became sad just as God wanted you to. So you were not hurt in any way by us.

As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us.

Now I am glad I sent it, not because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants his people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way.

For though I should glory somewhat abundantly concerning our authority( which the Lord gave for building you up, and not for casting you down), I shall not be put to shame:that I may not seem as if I would terrify you by my letters.For, His letters, they say, are weighty and strong; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.

For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.For we rejoice, when we are weak, and ye are strong: this we also pray for, even your perfecting.For this cause I write these things while absent, that I may not when present deal sharply, according to the authority which the Lord gave me for building up, and not for casting down.

Sorrow is better than laughter; for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made glad.

I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance.

For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

Even so, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
