For, His letters, they say, are weighty and strong; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.

因為有人說：「論他的書信倒有重量有魄力；及至身臨面對、卻是軟弱無力，說話又平淡可鄙」。

因為有人說：「保羅的書信又嚴厲又強硬，但他親身在的時候卻是軟弱的人，他的言語也被藐視。」

或謂我書嚴厲、晤對時則身柔言鄙、

有言我書嚴厲、及晤對時、身柔言鄙、

有人言、我書嚴厲、及至晤會時、身弱言陋、

頗聞人言：『彼之書札、雖雷厲風行；而彼之形軀、則柔弱無能、言語更無足輕重。』

For some say,“ His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing.”

Some say,“ His letters sound important. They are powerful. But in person he doesn’t seem like much. And what he says doesn’t amount to anything.”

For they say,“ His letters are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.”

For some say,“ Paul’s letters are demanding and forceful, but in person he is weak, and his speeches are worthless!”

For it is said,“ His letters are weighty and powerful, but his physical presence is weak and his public speaking amounts to nothing.”

For they say,“ His letters are weighty and strong, but his personal presence is unimpressive and his speech contemptible.”

“ For his letters,” they say,“ are weighty and powerful, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.”

For it is said,“ His letters are weighty and powerful, but his physical presence is weak, and his public speaking is despicable.”

For[ his] letters, say they,[ are] weighty and powerful; but[ his] bodily presence[ is] weak, and[ his] speech contemptible.

because some say,“ His letters are weighty and forceful, but his physical presence is weak and his speech is of no account.”

For,“ His letters”, they say,“ are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech is despised.”

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not in wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made void.

but ye know that because of an infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you the first time:and that which was a temptation to you in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but ye received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

But though I be rude in speech, yet am I not in knowledge; nay, in every way have we made this manifest unto you in all things.

On behalf of such a one will I glory: but on mine own behalf I will not glory, save in my weaknesses.For if I should desire to glory, I shall not be foolish; for I shall speak the truth: but I forbear, lest any man should account of me above that which he seeth me to be, or heareth from me.And by reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted overmuch, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, that I should not be exalted overmuch.Concerning this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.And he hath said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

And I, brethren, when I came unto you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God.For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.And my speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

Then said I, Ah, Lord Jehovah! behold, I know not how to speak; for I am a child.

And Moses said unto Jehovah, Oh, Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom knew not God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe.

Now I Paul myself entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you:
