此室雖高、凡過之者、必駭異曰、耶和華曷如是待此地此室乎、

凡過此有名之殿宇、必駭異、如有詢及者曰、耶和華燬此殿、害此國也、曷故。

此殿今雖崇高、凡過之者必驚訝問曰、主如是行於斯地與斯殿何故、

This temple will become a heap of rubble. All who pass by will be appalled and say,‘ Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’

This temple will become a pile of stones. All those who pass by it will be shocked. They will say,‘ Why has the Lord done a thing like this to this land and temple?’

And at this house, which was exalted, everyone passing by will be astonished and say,‘ Why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’

And though this Temple is impressive now, all who pass by will be appalled. They will ask,‘ Why did the Lord do such terrible things to this land and to this Temple?’

As for this temple, which was exalted, everyone who passes by will be appalled and will say,“ Why did the LORD do this to this land and this temple?”

As for this house, which was exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say,‘ Why has the Lord done these things to this land and to this house?’

“ And as for this house, which is exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say,‘ Why has the Lord done thus to this land and this house?’

And this house, which is so high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall say, Why hath Jehovah done thus unto this land, and to this house?

As for this temple, which was exalted, everyone who passes by will be appalled and will say: Why did the Lord do this to this land and this temple?

And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house?

多國的人必經過這城，彼此發問：‘耶和華為甚麼這樣對待這大城呢？’必有人說：‘是因為他們離棄了耶和華他們神的約，並且敬拜事奉別神。’”

我要使這城變為荒涼，成為被人嗤笑的對象；每一個經過這裡的，都必因這城所遭受的一切創傷而驚駭，並且嗤笑她。

“你向這人民傳講這一切時，如果他們問你：‘耶和華為甚麼宣告這一切嚴重的災禍對付我們呢？我們有甚麼罪孽？我們犯了甚麼罪，得罪了耶和華我們的神呢？’你就要回答他們：‘因為你們的列祖離棄了我（這是耶和華的宣告），他們隨從別的神，事奉敬拜他們；他們離棄了我，不遵守我的律法。至於你們，你們作壞事比你們的列祖更厲害；看哪！你們各人都隨從自己頑梗的惡心行事，不聽從我。

“以東必成為令人驚駭的地方；每一個經過那裡的，都必因這地所遭受的一切創傷而驚駭，並且嗤笑它。

看見了這些的人和萬國的人都要問：‘耶和華為甚麼向這地這樣行呢？為甚麼大發烈怒呢？’人就必回答：‘是因為他們離棄了耶和華他們列祖的神的約，就是耶和華把他們從埃及地領出來的時候，與他們所立的；去事奉別的神，向他們叩拜，就是他們不認識的神，也是耶和華沒有給他們指定要拜的神；所以耶和華向這地大發烈怒，把這書上所寫的一切咒詛都降在這地上；於是耶和華在烈怒、忿怒和大怒中，把他們從他們的地土拔出來，丟在別的地方，像今天一樣。’

因耶和華的烈怒，巴比倫必沒有人居住，完全荒廢；每一個住過巴比倫的，都必因這地遭受的一切創傷而驚駭，並且嗤笑它。

因此，耶和華的震怒臨到猶大和耶路撒冷的居民身上，使他們成為令人恐懼、驚駭和嗤笑的對象，就像你們親眼看見的一樣。

“將來如果有人問：‘耶和華我們的神，為甚麼向我們行這一切事呢？’你就要對他們說：‘你們怎樣離棄我，在你們的土地上事奉外族人的神，你們也要在不屬你們的土地上照樣服事外族人。’”

這殿必成為廢墟（按照《馬索拉文本》，“成為廢墟”應作“甚高”；現參照《敘利亞譯本》翻譯），經過的人都必驚訝，取笑說：耶和華為甚麼向這地和這殿這樣作啊？人要回答說：是因為他們離棄了那把他們的列祖從埃及地領出來的耶和華他們的神，去親近別的神，敬拜他們，事奉他們，因此耶和華使這一切災禍臨到他們。’”

哥尼雅這個人是被鄙視、被摔碎的瓶子，是沒有人喜悅的器皿嗎？他和他的後裔為甚麼被驅趕，被拋棄到他們不認識的地去呢？

如果你心裡問：“這些事為甚麼發生在我身上呢？”這是由於你極大的罪孽；你的袍子被掀起，你的下體（“下體”原文作“腳跟”）暴露出來。
