“在你為耶和華你的神築的祭壇旁邊，不可栽種甚麼樹木，作亞舍拉。

這一切都作完了，所有在那裡的以色列人就都出去，到猶大的各城，打碎神柱，砍下亞舍拉；又在猶大、便雅憫、以法蓮和瑪拿西各地，把邱壇和祭壇完全拆毀。然後以色列眾人都各回各城，各歸自己的地業去了。

他們起來，把耶路撒冷城中的祭壇和一切香壇，盡都除去，拋在汲淪溪中。

智慧勝於戰鬥的武器，但一個罪人能破壞許多好事。

他廢去邱壇，打碎神柱，砍掉亞舍拉；他又打碎摩西所做的銅蛇，因為直到那些日子，以色列人仍然向它焚香，稱它作尼忽士但。

就是那些在房頂上敬拜天上萬象的，那些敬拜耶和華，指著他起誓，又指著瑪勒公起誓的，

‘耶路撒冷的房屋和猶大列王的宮殿，都要像陀斐特一樣成為不潔；人曾在這一切房屋宮殿的屋頂上，向天上的萬象燒香，向別神澆奠祭。’”

他廢除了從前猶大列王所立、在猶大各城的邱壇，和耶路撒冷的周圍焚香拜偶像的祭司。又廢除向巴力、日、月、星辰和天上萬象焚香的人。他把亞舍拉像從耶和華殿裡搬走，拿到耶路撒冷外的汲淪溪去，在汲淪溪把它燒毀，磨碎成灰，把灰撒在平民的墳墓上。

又恐怕你抬頭望天，看見日、月、星，就是天上萬象的時候，就被勾引，去敬拜和事奉它們，那原是耶和華你們的神分給天下萬民享用的。

以色列人行了耶和華看為惡的事，去事奉眾巴力；他們離棄了領他們出埃及的耶和華、他們列祖的神，去跟從別的神，就是他們周圍各族的神，敬拜他們，惹耶和華發怒。他們離棄了耶和華，去事奉巴力和亞斯他錄。

這希西家不是曾經把耶和華的邱壇和祭壇除去，吩咐猶大和耶路撒冷的人說：你們要在一個壇前敬拜，要在它上面燒香嗎？

他們又為自己在各高岡上，各茂盛樹下建造邱壇、神柱和亞舍拉。

他們的兒女也懷念著那些在各高岡上、在繁茂樹旁的祭壇和亞舍拉。

拋散在太陽、月亮和天上的萬象之下，就是他們從前所愛慕、服事、跟隨、求問、敬拜的。這些骸骨必不再被收殮埋葬，必在地面上成為糞肥。

於是神轉身離開，任憑他們事奉天象，正如先知書所說：‘以色列家啊，你們在曠野四十年，豈是將祭牲和祭物獻給我呢？

他重新建造邱壇，就是他父親希西家所拆毀的；又為巴力建立祭壇，做亞舍拉，好像以色列王亞哈所做的，並且敬拜事奉天上的萬象。

那人將來是智是愚，有誰曉得呢？可是他竟要掌管一切我勞碌得來的，就是我在日光之下用智慧得來的。這又是虛空。

他又除去猶大列王獻給日頭的馬匹；這些馬匹是在耶和華殿的入口處，靠近太監拿單．米勒在院子裡的住宅。他又把獻給日頭的戰車用火燒掉。

他卻隨從以色列諸王的道路，又為巴力鑄造偶像；並且在欣嫩子谷燒香，用火焚燒自己的兒女，像耶和華在以色列人面前驅走的外族人所行可厭惡的事一樣；又在邱壇上、山岡上和各青翠樹下，獻祭燒香。
