But when envoys were sent by the rulers of Babylon to ask him about the miraculous sign that had occurred in the land, God left him to test him and to know everything that was in his heart.

The rulers of Babylon sent messengers to him. They asked him about the miraculous sign that had taken place in the land. Then God left Hezekiah to test him. God wanted to know everything in Hezekiah’s heart.

And so in the matter of the envoys of the princes of Babylon, who had been sent to him to inquire about the sign that had been done in the land, God left him to himself, in order to test him and to know all that was in his heart.

However, when ambassadors arrived from Babylon to ask about the remarkable events that had taken place in the land, God withdrew from Hezekiah in order to test him and to see what was really in his heart.

When the ambassadors of Babylon’s rulers were sent to him to inquire about the miraculous sign that happened in the land, God left him to test him and discover what was in his heart.

Even in the matter of the messengers of the rulers of Babylon, who were sent to him to inquire about the wonder that had happened in the land; God left him alone only to test him, so that He might know everything that was in his heart.

However, regarding the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, whom they sent to him to inquire about the wonder that was done in the land, God withdrew from him, in order to test him, that He might know all that was in his heart.

Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

When the ambassadors of Babylon’s rulers were sent to him to inquire about the miraculous sign that happened in the land, God left him to test him and discover what was in his heart.

Howbeit in[ the business of] the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was[ done] in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all[ that was] in his heart.

So when the envoys arrived from the Babylonian officials to visit him and inquire about the sign that occurred in the land, God left him alone to test him, in order to know his true motives.

However concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. (niv)

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him,“ Abraham!”“ Here I am,” he replied. (niv)

In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. He prayed to the Lord, who answered him and gave him a miraculous sign. (niv)

He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you. (niv)

When tempted, no one should say,“ God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; (niv)

But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”The Lord said to Satan,“ Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord. (niv)

“ I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (niv)

The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart. (niv)

But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap.He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness, (niv)

At that time Marduk-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of his illness and recovery.Hezekiah received the envoys gladly and showed them what was in his storehouses— the silver, the gold, the spices, the fine olive oil— his entire armory and everything found among his treasures. There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and asked,“ What did those men say, and where did they come from?”“ From a distant land,” Hezekiah replied.“ They came to me from Babylon.”The prophet asked,“ What did they see in your palace?”“ They saw everything in my palace,” Hezekiah said.“ There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah,“ Hear the word of the Lord Almighty:The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the Lord.And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”“ The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought,“ There will be peace and security in my lifetime.” (niv)

This third I will put into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say,‘ They are my people,’ and they will say,‘ The Lord is our God.’” (niv)

Then she called,“ Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought,“ I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him. (niv)

Hezekiah had asked Isaiah,“ What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me and that I will go up to the temple of the Lord on the third day from now?”Isaiah answered,“ This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: Shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or shall it go back ten steps?”“ It is a simple matter for the shadow to go forward ten steps,” said Hezekiah.“ Rather, have it go back ten steps.”Then the prophet Isaiah called on the Lord, and the Lord made the shadow go back the ten steps it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.At that time Marduk-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of Hezekiah’s illness.Hezekiah received the envoys and showed them all that was in his storehouses— the silver, the gold, the spices and the fine olive oil— his armory and everything found among his treasures. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior. (niv)

You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. (niv)

you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. (niv)

These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith— of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire— may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. (niv)

“‘ This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised:I will make the shadow cast by the sun go back the ten steps it has gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.’” So the sunlight went back the ten steps it had gone down. (niv)

Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. (niv)

Sustain me, my God, according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed.Uphold me, and I will be delivered; I will always have regard for your decrees. (niv)

Then the Lord said to Satan,“ Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.”“ Skin for skin!” Satan replied.“ A man will give all he has for his own life.But now stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face.”The Lord said to Satan,“ Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life.” (niv)

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (niv)
