当晚，耶和华的天使到亚述营中杀了十八万五千人。人们清早起来，发现到处是尸体。亚述王西拿基立便拔营回国，住在尼尼微。一天，亚述王在他的神明尼斯洛的庙里祭拜时，他的两个儿子亚得米勒和沙利色用刀杀了他，逃往亚拉腊。他的另一个儿子以撒哈顿继位。

唯有你当受敬畏。你发怒的时候，谁能在你面前站立呢？

希律没有把荣耀归给上帝，主的天使立刻惩罚他，他当场被虫子咬死了。

傲慢带来羞辱，谦卑者有智慧。

耶和华说：“我现在要施展大能，我必受尊崇。你们所谋的像糠秕，所行的如碎秸，毫无价值。你们的气息会像火一样烧灭你们自己。列邦必被烧成灰烬，好像割下的荆棘被火焚烧。”

亚摩斯的儿子以赛亚派人告诉希西迦：“以色列的上帝耶和华说，‘我已经听见你关于亚述王西拿基立的祷告。

祂挫败首领的傲气，世上的君王都敬畏祂。

我是耶和华，这就是我的名字。我不会把我的荣耀给假神，也不会把我当受的赞美给雕刻的偶像。

我的上帝差遣天使封住了狮子的口，不让它们伤害我，因为我在上帝面前是清白的。王啊，我在你面前也没有过错。”

他说，‘我的臣仆都要做藩王！

你使你立的王大获全胜，向你膏立的大卫及其后代广施慈爱，直到永远。

当天使准备伸手毁灭耶路撒冷的时候，耶和华心生怜悯，就对灭命天使说：“够了，住手吧！”当时，耶和华的天使正站在耶布斯人亚劳拿的麦场上。

耶和华必使人听见祂威严的声音，在愤怒、烈焰、暴雨、雷轰和冰雹中让人看见祂降罚的臂膀。亚述人听见耶和华的声音必心惊胆战，祂必用杖击打他们。耶和华的刑杖每责打他们一下，祂的子民必击鼓弹琴。祂必在战场上挥手击打他们。焚烧之地——陀斐特早已为亚述王预备好了，那里又宽又深，堆着许多木柴，耶和华的气必如同一股硫磺火点燃那些木柴。

亚摩斯的儿子以赛亚先知派人对希西迦说：“以色列的上帝耶和华说，‘因为你就亚述王西拿基立的事向我祷告，

世界末日的时候也是这样。天使必把恶人从义人中拣出来，丢在火炉里，让恶人在那里哀哭切齿。

尼布甲尼撒说：“沙得拉、米煞、亚伯尼歌的上帝当受称颂！祂差遣天使拯救那些信靠祂的仆人。他们无视王命，宁肯死也不供奉、祭拜其他神明。

我必使他的仇敌满面羞愧，但他头上的王冠必光芒四射。”

强敌被掳掠，他们倒地而亡，再也不能还手。

看啊，主——万军之耶和华要以大能削去树枝。高大的树必被斩断，挺拔的大树必被砍倒，茂密的树林必被铁斧砍掉，连黎巴嫩的大树也要倒在全能的上帝面前。

你们即使依靠埃及的战车和骑兵，又怎能打败我主人的一个最小的将领呢？

骄横是沦亡的前奏，狂傲是败落的预兆。

地上的君王、显贵、将领、富豪、有势力的、一切奴隶和自由人都躲藏在山洞里和岩穴间。他们哀求群山和岩石，说：“倒下来遮盖我们，将我们藏起来吧！我们不敢面对宝座上的那位和羔羊的烈怒啊！

祂充满智慧，能力无比，谁能抗拒祂还可平安无恙？

但你的众仇敌必像纤细的尘埃一样消散，众多的残暴之徒必如被风刮去的糠秕。突然，刹那之间，万军之耶和华必带着雷轰、地震、巨响、旋风、暴风和烈火来临。攻打、围困耶路撒冷及其堡垒的各国军队必如梦幻，如夜间的异象一样消失。他们好像饥饿的人梦中吃饭，醒来仍然饥饿；像口渴的人梦中喝水，醒来仍然渴得发昏。攻打锡安山的各国军队结局都必如此。”

因此，主——万军之耶和华必使亚述王强健的士兵疾病缠身，使火焰吞噬他的荣耀。以色列的光必成为火焰，他们的圣者必成为烈火，一日之间烧光亚述王的荆棘和蒺藜。他茂盛的树林和肥美的田园必被彻底摧毁，犹如病人渐渐消亡。林中剩下的树木稀少，连小孩子也能数清。

我又看见一位天使站在太阳里，对空中飞翔的鸟大声呼唤：“来吧！一起来参加上帝的盛宴，一同享用君王、将军、勇士、马匹、骑士、自由人、奴隶和尊卑老少的肉吧！”
