My sons, do not be negligent now, for the Lord has chosen you to stand before him and serve him, to minister before him and to burn incense.”

My sons, don’t fail to obey the Lord. He has chosen you to stand in front of him and work for him. He wants you to serve him and burn incense to him.”

My sons, do not neglect your duties any longer! The Lord has chosen you to stand in his presence, to minister to him, and to lead the people in worship and present offerings to him.”

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord to stand before the Lord to minister to him and to bless in his name, to this day.

“ Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him.They shall keep guard over him and over the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, as they minister at the tabernacle.They shall guard all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, and keep guard over the people of Israel as they minister at the tabernacle.And you shall give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the people of Israel.

And with you bring your brothers also, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, that they may join you and minister to you while you and your sons with you are before the tent of the testimony.They shall keep guard over you and over the whole tent, but shall not come near to the vessels of the sanctuary or to the altar lest they, and you, die.They shall join you and keep guard over the tent of meeting for all the service of the tent, and no outsider shall come near you.And you shall keep guard over the sanctuary and over the altar, that there may never again be wrath on the people of Israel.And behold, I have taken your brothers the Levites from among the people of Israel. They are a gift to you, given to the Lord, to do the service of the tent of meeting.And you and your sons with you shall guard your priesthood for all that concerns the altar and that is within the veil; and you shall serve. I give your priesthood as a gift, and any outsider who comes near shall be put to death.”

And fire came out from the Lord and consumed the 250 men offering the incense.Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,“ Tell Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest to take up the censers out of the blaze. Then scatter the fire far and wide, for they have become holy.As for the censers of these men who have sinned at the cost of their lives, let them be made into hammered plates as a covering for the altar, for they offered them before the Lord, and they became holy. Thus they shall be a sign to the people of Israel.”So Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers, which those who were burned had offered, and they were hammered out as a covering for the altar,to be a reminder to the people of Israel, so that no outsider, who is not of the descendants of Aaron, should draw near to burn incense before the Lord, lest he become like Korah and his company— as the Lord said to him through Moses.

“ Take the Levites from among the people of Israel and cleanse them.Thus you shall do to them to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of purification upon them, and let them go with a razor over all their body, and wash their clothes and cleanse themselves.Then let them take a bull from the herd and its grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, and you shall take another bull from the herd for a sin offering.And you shall bring the Levites before the tent of meeting and assemble the whole congregation of the people of Israel.When you bring the Levites before the Lord, the people of Israel shall lay their hands on the Levites,and Aaron shall offer the Levites before the Lord as a wave offering from the people of Israel, that they may do the service of the Lord.Then the Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, and you shall offer the one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering to the Lord to make atonement for the Levites.And you shall set the Levites before Aaron and his sons, and shall offer them as a wave offering to the Lord.“ Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the people of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine.
