I was angry with my people and desecrated my inheritance; I gave them into your hand, and you showed them no mercy. Even on the aged you laid a very heavy yoke. (niv)

and prayed:“ I am too ashamed and disgraced, my God, to lift up my face to you, because our sins are higher than our heads and our guilt has reached to the heavens. (niv)

Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I take vengeance on them.’” (niv)

Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame; you will be destroyed forever.On the day you stood aloof while strangers carried off his wealth and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them.You should not gloat over your brother in the day of his misfortune, nor rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction, nor boast so much in the day of their trouble.You should not march through the gates of my people in the day of their disaster, nor gloat over them in their calamity in the day of their disaster, nor seize their wealth in the day of their disaster.You should not wait at the crossroads to cut down their fugitives, nor hand over their survivors in the day of their trouble.“ The day of the Lord is near for all nations. The anger of the Lord burned against Israel so that he sold them into the hands of Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram Naharaim, to whom the Israelites were subject for eight years. (niv)

He said to the king,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ You have set free a man I had determined should die. Therefore it is your life for his life, your people for his people.’” (niv)

Therefore the Lord his God delivered him into the hands of the king of Aram. The Arameans defeated him and took many of his people as prisoners and brought them to Damascus. He was also given into the hands of the king of Israel, who inflicted heavy casualties on him. (niv)

Afterward, the prophet came to the king of Israel and said,“ Strengthen your position and see what must be done, because next spring the king of Aram will attack you again.” (niv)

“ Son of man, because Tyre has said of Jerusalem,‘ Aha! The gate to the nations is broken, and its doors have swung open to me; now that she lies in ruins I will prosper,’therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Tyre, and I will bring many nations against you, like the sea casting up its waves. “ Woe to the Assyrian, the rod of my anger, in whose hand is the club of my wrath!I send him against a godless nation, I dispatch him against a people who anger me, to seize loot and snatch plunder, and to trample them down like mud in the streets.But this is not what he intends, this is not what he has in mind; his purpose is to destroy, to put an end to many nations. (niv)

For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt. (niv)

I never sat in the company of revelers, never made merry with them; I sat alone because your hand was on me and you had filled me with indignation.Why is my pain unending and my wound grievous and incurable? You are to me like a deceptive brook, like a spring that fails. (niv)

When Jehoshaphat king of Judah returned safely to his palace in Jerusalem,Jehu the seer, the son of Hanani, went out to meet him and said to the king,“ Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Because of this, the wrath of the Lord is on you. (niv)

The anger of the Lord burned against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him, who said,“ Why do you consult this people’s gods, which could not save their own people from your hand?”While he was still speaking, the king said to him,“ Have we appointed you an adviser to the king? Stop! Why be struck down?” So the prophet stopped but said,“ I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.” (niv)

The Lord said,“ What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. (niv)

Meanwhile a prophet came to Ahab king of Israel and announced,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Do you see this vast army? I will give it into your hand today, and then you will know that I am the Lord.’” (niv)
