In one day Pekah son of Remaliah killed a hundred and twenty thousand soldiers in Judah— because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors.

Tell him,‘ Be careful, and keep calm. Don’t be afraid, neither let your heart be faint because of these two tails of smoking torches, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have plotted evil against you, saying,

Yahweh will cause you to be struck before your enemies. You will go out one way against them, and will flee seven ways before them. You will be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth.

when you disobey the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them. Then Yahweh’s anger will be kindled against you, and you will perish quickly from off the good land which he has given to you.”

In those days, Yahweh began to send Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah against Judah.

Even all the nations will say,“ Why has Yahweh done this to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?”Then men will say,“ Because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they didn’t know and that he had not given to them.

The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.’”

The earth also is polluted under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant.Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those who dwell therein are found guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left.

But it shall come to pass, if you will not listen to Yahweh your God’s voice, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come on you and overtake you.

He said,“ I will hide my face from them. I will see what their end will be; for they are a very perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness.

and he went out to meet Asa, and said to him,“ Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin! Yahweh is with you, while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

“ Your own wickedness will correct you, and your backsliding will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing, that you have forsaken Yahweh your God, and that my fear is not in you,” says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies.

You have rejected me,” says Yahweh.“ You have gone backward. Therefore I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you. I am weary of showing compassion.

But the destruction of transgressors and sinners shall be together, and those who forsake Yahweh shall be consumed.

You shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are around you,for Yahweh your God among you is a jealous God, lest the anger of Yahweh your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.

Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter, so five hundred thousand chosen men of Israel fell down slain.

Yahweh said to Moses,“ Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers. This people will rise up and play the prostitute after the strange gods of the land where they go to be among them, and will forsake me and break my covenant which I have made with them.Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come on them; so that they will say in that day,‘ Haven’t these evils come on us because our God is not among us?’
