Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

Ahaz was 20 years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for 16 years. He didn’t do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He didn’t do what King David had done.

利瑪利的兒子比加第十七年，猶大王約坦的兒子亞哈斯登基。他登基的時候年二十歲，在耶路撒冷作王十六年。他不像他祖先大衛行耶和華－他神眼中看為正的事，卻行以色列諸王的道，又照着耶和華從以色列人面前趕出的外邦人所行可憎的事，使他的兒子經火，並在丘壇上、山岡上、各青翠樹下獻祭燒香。那時，亞蘭王利汛和利瑪利的兒子以色列王比加上來攻打耶路撒冷，圍困亞哈斯，卻不能打勝。當時亞蘭王利汛收復以拉他回歸亞蘭，把猶大人從以拉他趕出去。以東人來到以拉他，住在那裏，直到今日。亞哈斯派使者到亞述王提革拉‧毗列色那裏，說：「我是你的僕人，你的兒子。現在亞蘭王和以色列王攻擊我，求你上來，救我脫離他們的手。」亞哈斯將耶和華殿裏和王宮府庫裏所有的金銀都送給亞述王為禮物。亞述王答應了他，上去攻打大馬士革，攻下了城，殺了利汛，把居民擄到吉珥。亞哈斯王到大馬士革迎接亞述王提革拉‧毗列色，在大馬士革看見一座壇。亞哈斯王把壇的規模和樣式，以及作法的細節，送到烏利亞祭司那裏。烏利亞祭司照着亞哈斯王從大馬士革所送來的一切，在亞哈斯王還未從大馬士革回來之前，築了一座壇。王從大馬士革回來，看見壇，走近壇前，在壇上獻祭。他燒燔祭和素祭，獻澆酒祭，將平安祭牲的血灑在壇上。他移動耶和華面前的銅壇，從殿的前面，新壇和耶和華殿的中間，搬到新壇的北邊。亞哈斯王吩咐烏利亞祭司說：「早晨的燔祭、晚上的素祭，王的燔祭、素祭，國內眾百姓的燔祭、素祭、澆酒祭都要燒在大壇上。燔祭牲和其他祭牲的血全都要灑在這壇上。至於銅壇，我要作求問之用。」烏利亞祭司就照着亞哈斯王所吩咐的一切做了。亞哈斯王把盆座四面的嵌邊拆下來，把盆從座上挪下來，又將銅海從馱銅海的銅牛上搬下來，放在石板鋪的地上。他為了亞述王的緣故，在耶和華的殿裏移動殿裏為安息日所蓋的遮棚和王從外面進來的入口。亞哈斯其餘所做的事，不都寫在《猶大列王記》上嗎？亞哈斯與他祖先同睡，與他祖先同葬在大衛城，他兒子希西家接續他作王。

耶和華與約沙法同在，因為他行他祖先大衛從前所行的道，不去尋求諸巴力，

烏西雅的孫子，約坦的兒子，猶大王亞哈斯在位的時候，亞蘭王利汛和利瑪利的兒子以色列王比加上來攻打耶路撒冷，卻不能攻取。有人告訴大衛家說：「亞蘭與以法蓮已經結盟。」王的心和百姓的心就都顫動，好像林中的樹被風吹動一樣。耶和華對以賽亞說：「你和你的兒子施亞‧雅述要出去，到上池的水溝盡頭，往漂布地的大路上，迎見亞哈斯，對他說：『你要謹慎，要鎮定，不要害怕，不要因利汛和亞蘭，以及利瑪利的兒子這兩個冒煙火把的頭所發的烈怒而心裏膽怯。因為亞蘭、以法蓮，和利瑪利的兒子設惡謀要害你，說：我們要上去攻擊猶大，擾亂它，攻破它來歸我們，在其中立他比勒的兒子為王。主耶和華如此說：這事必站立不住，也不得成就。因為亞蘭的首都是大馬士革，大馬士革的領袖是利汛；六十五年之內，以法蓮必然國破族亡，以法蓮的首都是撒瑪利亞；撒瑪利亞的領袖是利瑪利的兒子。你們若是不信，必站立不穩。』」耶和華又吩咐亞哈斯：「你向耶和華－你的神求一個預兆：在陰間的深淵，或往上的高處。」但亞哈斯說：「我不求；我不試探耶和華。」
