Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

Ahaz was 20 years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for 16 years. He didn’t do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He didn’t do what King David had done.

利瑪利的兒子比加十七年、猶大王約坦的兒子亞哈斯登極作王；他登極的時候二十歲；他在耶路撒冷作王十六年。他不像他祖大衛行永恆主他的上帝所看為對的事，卻走以色列諸王所走的路；竟將兒子用火燒獻為祭，像永恆主從以色列人面前所驅逐的外國人所行可厭惡的事一樣；他並且在邱壇上、在山岡上和各茂盛樹下宰牲燻祭。那時亞蘭王利汛和利瑪利的兒子以色列王比加上來攻打耶路撒冷；他圍困亞哈斯，卻不能戰勝他。當那時候以東王把以拉他收回去歸以東，將猶大人趕出以拉他；以東人就來到以拉他，住在那裏、直到今日。亞哈斯差遣了使者去見亞述王提革拉毘列色，說：『我是你的僕人、你的兒子；現在亞蘭王和以色列王起來攻擊我；求你上來拯救我脫離他們的手掌。』亞哈斯將永恆主殿裏和王宮府庫裏所有的金銀都送給亞述王做禮物。亞述王應允了他，就上去攻打大馬色，奪取那城，使它的居民流亡到吉珥，又將利汛殺死。亞哈斯王往大馬色去迎接亞述王提革拉毘列色，看見在大馬色的祭壇；亞哈斯王就把祭壇的樣式和模形照它一切的作法、送到祭司烏利亞那裏。祭司烏利亞就把祭壇築了起來；亞哈斯王從大馬色所送來的怎麼樣，祭司烏利亞都按怎麼樣造，等候亞哈斯王從大馬色回來。王從大馬色回來；把祭壇細看；王走近祭壇前，就上到壇上，去燻他的燔祭和素祭，又澆他的奠祭，並且將他平安祭牲的血潑在祭壇上。他又將永恆主面前的銅祭壇、從殿的前面、從新壇與永恆主的殿之間、搬去放在新壇北邊。亞哈斯王便吩咐祭司烏利亞說：『早晨的燔祭、晚上的素祭、王的燔祭和素祭、國中之民的燔祭素祭和奠祭、都要燻在大祭壇上；燔祭牲所有的血和平安祭牲的血也都要潑在這壇上；只是銅祭壇卻要給我做求問的用處。』祭司烏利亞就照亞哈斯王所吩咐的一切話去行。亞哈斯王砍斷了盆座邊緣，將洗濯盆從座上挪下來，又把銅海從馱海的銅牛上拆下來、放在鋪石地。又因亞述王的緣故、將聖殿為安息日所建的廊子、和王從外邊進殿經過的走廊、都從永恆主的殿拆走。亞哈斯其餘所行的事、不是都寫在《猶大諸王記》上麼？亞哈斯跟他列祖一同長眠，埋葬在大衛城、和他列祖同在一處：他兒子希西家接替他作王。

永恆主和約沙法同在，因為他行了他父親初行的道路，不尋求眾巴力，

當烏西雅的孫子約坦的兒子猶大王亞哈斯執政的日子、亞蘭王利汛和利瑪利的兒子以色列王比加上耶路撒冷來要攻打它，卻不能攻取。有人告訴大衛家說：『亞蘭已在以法蓮安頓下了』，王的心和人民的心就都搖動，像林中的樹在風前搖動一樣。永恆主對以賽亞說：『你和你兒子餘民必回出去、到上池的水溝盡頭，到漂布者之地的大路上、去迎接亞哈斯，對他說：「你要謹慎、鎮靜，不要因亞蘭王利汛和利瑪利的兒子這兩個冒煙的火把頭所發怒氣之猛烈而害怕，不要心裏膽怯。因為亞蘭、以法蓮和利瑪利的兒子、陰謀要害你，說：『我們來上去攻擊猶大，使它恐怖，攻破它來歸我們，在那中間立他比勒的兒子為王』，因此主永恆主這麼說：這計謀必立不住，也不能實現；因為亞蘭的首都是大馬色，大馬色的首領是利汛；以法蓮的首都是撒瑪利亞，撒瑪利亞的首領是利瑪利的兒子；六年五年之內以法蓮一定破敗、不能成為一族之民：你們若不信靠，一定不能牢靠。」』永恆主又告訴亞哈斯說：『你向永恆主你的上帝求個兆頭，或者求顯於陰間那麼深，或者求顯於上天那麼高都可以。』亞哈斯說：『我不求，我不試探永恆主。』
