They abandoned the temple of the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and worshiped Asherah poles and idols. Because of their guilt, God’s anger came on Judah and Jerusalem.

They turned their backs on the temple of the Lord, the God of their people. They worshiped poles made to honor the female god named Asherah. They also worshiped statues of other gods. Because Judah and Jerusalem were guilty of sin, God became angry with them.

And they abandoned the house of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols. And wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs.

They decided to abandon the Temple of the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and they worshiped Asherah poles and idols instead! Because of this sin, divine anger fell on Judah and Jerusalem.

And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore[ is] wrath upon thee from before the LORD.

And it came to pass after this,[ that] Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.

Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.

And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither: for whereas we have offended against the LORD[ already], ye intend to add[ more] to our sins and to our trespass: for our trespass is great, and[ there is] fierce wrath against Israel.

Wherefore the wrath of the LORD was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he hath delivered them to trouble, to astonishment, and to hissing, as ye see with your eyes.

But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit[ done] unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

The princes of Judah were like them that remove the bound:[ therefore] I will pour out my wrath upon them like water.Ephraim[ is] oppressed[ and] broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment.

But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy back:

But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:

For I[ will be] unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I,[ even] I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue[ him].

Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

For it came to pass, when Solomon was old,[ that] his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as[ was] the heart of David his father.For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

They chose new gods; then[ was] war in the gates: was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?

I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place,[ and] the name of the Chemarims with the priests;And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship[ and] that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham;And them that are turned back from the LORD; and[ those] that have not sought the LORD, nor enquired for him.
