Nevertheless, because of the covenant the Lord had made with David, the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David. He had promised to maintain a lamp for him and his descendants forever.

But the Lord didn’t want to destroy the royal family of David. That’s because the Lord had made a covenant with him. The Lord had promised to keep the lamp of David’s kingdom burning brightly. The Lord had promised that for David and his children after him forever.

Yet the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and since he had promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons forever.

But the Lord did not want to destroy David’s dynasty, for he had made a covenant with David and promised that his descendants would continue to rule, shining like a lamp forever.

but for the sake of the covenant the LORD had made with David, he was unwilling to destroy the house of David since the LORD had promised to give a lamp to David and to his sons forever.

還留一個支派給他的兒子，使我僕人大衛在我所選擇立我名的耶路撒冷城裏，在我面前長有燈光。

你壽數滿足、與你列祖同睡的時候，我必使你的後裔接續你的位；我也必堅定他的國。他必為我的名建造殿宇；我必堅定他的國位，直到永遠。我要作他的父，他要作我的子；他若犯了罪，我必用人的杖責打他，用人的鞭責罰他。但我的慈愛仍不離開他，像離開在你面前所廢棄的掃羅一樣。你的家和你的國必在我面前永遠堅立。你的國位也必堅定，直到永遠。』」拿單就按這一切話，照這默示，告訴大衛。

只是我不將全國奪回，要因我僕人大衛和我所選擇的耶路撒冷，還留一支派給你的兒子。」

在他僕人大衛家中，為我們興起了拯救的角，

要照亮坐在黑暗中死蔭裏的人，把我們的腳引到平安的路上。

說：我們可以上去攻擊猶大，擾亂它，攻破它，在其中立他比勒的兒子為王。所以主耶和華如此說：這所謀的必立不住，也不得成就。

我要為他存留我的慈愛，直到永遠；我與他立的約必要堅定。我也要使他的後裔存到永遠，使他的寶座如天之久。倘若他的子孫離棄我的律法，不照我的典章行，背棄我的律例，不遵守我的誡命，我就要用杖責罰他們的過犯，用鞭責罰他們的罪孽。只是我必不將我的慈愛全然收回，也必不叫我的信實廢棄。我必不背棄我的約，也不改變我口中所出的。

我要叫大衛的角在那裏發生；我為我的受膏者預備明燈。我要使他的仇敵披上羞恥；但他的冠冕要在頭上發光。

「耶和華如此說：你們若能廢棄我所立白日黑夜的約，使白日黑夜不按時輪轉，就能廢棄我與我僕人大衛所立的約，使他沒有兒子在他的寶座上為王，並能廢棄我與事奉我的祭司、利未人所立的約。天上的萬象不能數算，海邊的塵沙也不能斗量；我必照樣使我僕人大衛的後裔和事奉我的利未人多起來。」耶和華的話臨到耶利米說：「你沒有揣摩這百姓的話嗎？他們說：『耶和華所揀選的二族，他已經棄絕了。』他們這樣藐視我的百姓，以為不再成國。耶和華如此說：若是我立白日黑夜的約不能存住，若是我未曾安排天地的定例，我就棄絕雅各的後裔和我僕人大衛的後裔，不使大衛的後裔治理亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各的後裔；因為我必使他們被擄的人歸回，也必憐憫他們。」

你厭惡了與僕人所立的約，將他的冠冕踐踏於地。

我家在神面前並非如此；神卻與我立永遠的約。這約凡事堅穩，關乎我的一切救恩和我一切所想望的，他豈不為我成就嗎？

但洗魯雅的兒子亞比篩幫助大衛，攻打非利士人，將他殺死。當日，跟隨大衛的人向大衛起誓說：「以後你不可再與我們一同出戰，恐怕熄滅以色列的燈。」

耶和華卻因他僕人大衛的緣故，仍不肯滅絕猶大，照他所應許大衛的話，永遠賜燈光與他的子孫。

耶和華向大衛、憑誠實起了誓，必不反覆，說：我要使你所生的坐在你的寶座上。

但王的女兒約示巴將亞哈謝的兒子約阿施從那被殺的王子中偷出來，把他和他的乳母都藏在臥房裏。約示巴是約蘭王的女兒，亞哈謝的妹子，祭司耶何耶大的妻。她收藏約阿施，躲避亞她利雅，免得被殺。
