In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.

Baasha was king of Israel. He marched out against Judah. It was in the 36th year of Asa’s rule over Judah. Baasha built up the walls of Ramah. He did it to keep people from leaving or entering the territory of Asa, the king of Judah.

In the thirty-sixth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and built Ramah, that he might permit no one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

In the thirty sixth year of Asa’s reign, King Baasha of Israel invaded Judah and fortified Ramah in order to prevent anyone from entering or leaving King Asa’s territory in Judah.

他又召聚了犹大和便雅悯所有的人，以及在他们中间寄居的以法莲人、玛拿西人、西缅人。以色列人看见了耶和华亚撒的神和他同在，就有很多人投奔亚撒。

全以色列的祭司和利未人，都从各地来归向罗波安。利未人放弃了他们的草场和产业，来到犹大和耶路撒冷，是因为耶罗波安和他的儿子排斥他们，不准他们作祭司事奉耶和华。耶罗波安为邱坛、公山羊神，以及他铸造的牛犊，自己设立了祭司。以色列众支派中所有定意寻求耶和华以色列的神的，都随着利未人来到耶路撒冷，向耶和华他们列祖的神献祭。这样，他们就加强了犹大国的势力，使所罗门的儿子罗波安强盛了三年，因为他们在这三年，跟随了大卫和所罗门的道路。

这民若是上去，在耶路撒冷耶和华的殿里献祭，这民的心就必归向他们的主犹大王罗波安，他们必把我杀了，然后回到犹大王罗波安那里去。”

亚撒与以色列王巴沙在世的日子，双方常有战争。以色列王巴沙上来攻击犹大，修筑拉玛，不准人进出到犹大王亚撒那里。于是亚撒把耶和华殿和王宫的府库里所剩下的金银，都交在他臣仆的手中。亚撒王差派他们到大马士革的亚兰王，希旬的孙子、他伯利们的儿子便．哈达那里去，说：“你父与我父之间曾经立过约，我也要与你立约。现在我把金银送给你作礼物，请你去废除与以色列王巴沙所立的约，好使他离开我。”便．哈达听从亚撒王的话，派遣他的众军长去攻击以色列的各城。他们攻破了以云、但、亚伯．伯．玛迦、基尼烈全境和拿弗他利全地。巴沙听见了，就停止修筑拉玛，仍然留在得撒。于是亚撒王通告犹大众人，没有一个人例外。他们就把巴沙修筑拉玛所用的石头和木料运走；亚撒王用那些材料来修筑便雅悯的迦巴和米斯巴。

那时，出入的人都没有平安，因为各国的居民都遭遇动乱。
