‘ This is what the Lord says: Do not go up to fight against your fellow Israelites. Go home, every one of you, for this is my doing.’” So they obeyed the words of the Lord and turned back from marching against Jeroboam.

‘ The Lord says,“ Do not go up to fight against your relatives. I want every one of you to go back home. Things have happened exactly the way I planned them.” ’ ” So the young men obeyed the Lord’ s message. They turned back. They didn’t march out against Jeroboam.

‘ Thus says the Lord, You shall not go up or fight against your relatives. Return every man to his home, for this thing is from me.’” So they listened to the word of the Lord and returned and did not go against Jeroboam.

‘ This is what the Lord says: Do not fight against your relatives. Go back home, for what has happened is my doing!’” So they obeyed the message of the Lord and did not fight against Jeroboam.

‘ This is what the LORD says: You are not to march up and fight against your brothers. Each of you return home, for this incident has come from me.’” So they listened to what the LORD said and turned back from going against Jeroboam.

Then they returned to Samaria.

So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was brought about by God, that Yahweh might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying,“ What portion do we have in David? A man of God came to him, saying,“ O king, don’t let the army of Israel go with you, for Yahweh is not with Israel, with all the children of Ephraim.But if you will go, take action, and be strong for the battle. God will overthrow you before the enemy; for God has power to help, and to overthrow.”Amaziah said to the man of God,“ But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?” The man of God answered,“ Yahweh is able to give you much more than this.”Then Amaziah separated them, the army that had come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again. Therefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger.

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to save many people alive, as is happening today.

At that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him on the way. Now Ahijah had clad himself with a new garment; and the two of them were alone in the field.Ahijah took the new garment that was on him, and tore it in twelve pieces.He said to Jeroboam,“ Take ten pieces; for Yahweh, the God of Israel, says,‘ Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to you( but he shall have one tribe, for my servant David’s sake and for Jerusalem’s sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel);because that they have forsaken me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon. They have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my statutes and my ordinances, as David his father did.“‘ However I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand; but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant’s sake whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes;but I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand, and will give it to you, even ten tribes.I will give one tribe to his son, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for myself to put my name there.I will take you, and you shall reign according to all that your soul desires, and shall be king over Israel.It shall be, if you will listen to all that I command you, and will walk in my ways, and do that which is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did; that I will be with you, and will build you a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel to you.

The counsel of Yahweh stands fast forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

I say this to move you to shame.
