Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime.“ How would you advise me to answer these people?” he asked.

Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.

But then Absalom said,“ Bring in Hushai the Arkite. Let’s see what he thinks about this.”When Hushai arrived, Absalom told him what Ahithophel had said. Then he asked,“ What is your opinion? Should we follow Ahithophel’s advice? If not, what do you suggest?”

“ Just ask the previous generation. Pay attention to the experience of our ancestors.For we were born but yesterday and know nothing. Our days on earth are as fleeting as a shadow.

Never abandon a friend— either yours or your father’s. When disaster strikes, you won’t have to ask your brother for assistance. It’s better to go to a neighbor than to a brother who lives far away.

Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old.“ But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are his.

Then Absalom turned to Ahithophel and asked him,“ What should I do next?”

Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.
