And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I[ will chastise you] with scorpions.

却照着年轻人所出的主意对他们说：“我使你们负重轭，我必使你们负更重的轭！我父亲用鞭子惩罚你们，我却要用蝎子！”

反而照少年人出的主意對眾民說：『我父親使你們的軛很重，我卻要加重在那上頭呢；我父親用平常鞭子責打你們，我卻要用蠍子鞭呢。』

依少者之謀、告之曰、我父使爾負重軛、我必益之、我父責爾以鞭、我則責爾以蠍、

循少者之謀、謂民曰、我父使爾負軛、我必使爾負尤重之軛、我父以鞭責爾、我必以蠍責爾、

he followed the advice of the young men and said,“ My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.”

Instead, he followed the advice of the young men. He said,“ My father put a heavy load on your shoulders. But I’ll make it even heavier. My father beat you with whips. But I’ll beat you with bigger whips.”

King Rehoboam spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying,“ My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it. My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.”

and followed the counsel of his younger advisers. He told the people,“ My father laid heavy burdens on you, but I’m going to make them even heavier! My father beat you with whips, but I will beat you with scorpions!”

and spoke to them according to the young men’s advice, saying,“ My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father disciplined you with whips, but I, with barbed whips.”

He spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying,“ My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.”

and spoke to them according to the young men’s advice, saying,“ My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father disciplined you with whips, but I, with barbed whips.”

and followed the advice of the younger ones. He said,“ My father imposed heavy demands on you; I will make them even heavier. My father punished you with ordinary whips; I will punish you with whips that really sting your flesh.”

and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying,“ My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”

Better[ is] the end of a thing than the beginning thereof:[ and] the patient in spirit[ is] better than the proud in spirit.

And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise[ man] or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This[ is] also vanity.

But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.This wisdom descendeth not from above, but[ is] earthly, sensual, devilish.For where envying and strife[ is], there[ is] confusion and every evil work.But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle,[ and] easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.From whence[ come] wars and fightings among you?[ come they] not hence,[ even] of your lusts that war in your members?Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramothgilead: and the Syrians smote Joram.

Woe to thee, O land, when thy king[ is] a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

The beginning of strife[ is as] when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou[ it] somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little[ finger] shall be thicker than my father’s loins.For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I[ will chastise you] with scorpions.
