注意吧，我已經給了你們權柄、可以踐踏蛇和蠍子，並勝過仇敵一切的能力；斷沒有甚麼能害你們。

法老說：『看哪，這地的人民如今很多，你們竟叫他們歇下擔子。』就在那一天、法老就吩咐民間的督工和頭目說：『你們再別將草給人民作磚、像素常那樣了；叫他們去給自己撿草。他們素常作磚的數量、你們仍舊要逼着他們作完，一點也別讓減少，因為他們懶惰，才喊叫說：「容我們去獻祭給我們的上帝。」你們要把更重的工作加在這些人身上，叫他們專在那上頭作，不去注意虛假話。』

牠們有尾巴彷彿是蠍子，又有毒刺；牠們那傷害人五個月的權柄就在於牠們的尾巴。

我心裏柔和謙卑，你們要負我的軛來跟我學，你們心裏就可得安歇。

到那日子你們就會因所選的王而哀叫，到那日子永恆主卻不應允你們。』

埃及人嚴嚴地使以色列人作工：用很難作的苦工：像和灰泥、作磚，作田間各樣的工：就是埃及人嚴嚴叫他們去作的各樣苦工，使他們的生活逕是苦味。

蝗蟲卻沒有得權柄可以殺戮他們，只要叫他們受苦痛五個月；他們的苦痛就像蠍子螫人時所引起的苦痛一樣。

『豈不是打開兇惡的銬鐐，解下軛上的繩索，使被壓制的得自由，折斷一切的軛麼？

我惱怒我的人民，我使我的產業被褻瀆；我將他們交在你手中，你對他們毫無憐憫，竟把你的軛格外加重於老年人身上。

有蝗蟲從煙裏出來，到了地上；有權柄給了牠們，像地上的蠍子有權柄一樣。

『你去告訴哈拿尼雅說：「永恆主這麼說：你折斷了木的軛，我卻要作鐵的軛來代替它。因為萬軍之永恆主以色列之上帝這麼說：我已將鐵的軛加在這些國的脖子上，使他們服事巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒，他們總要服事他，連田野間的走獸、我也給了他。」』

現在你們去作工；草是不給你們的，磚卻要如數照交。』
