but having food and covering we shall be therewith content.

只要有衣有食，就当知足。

And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

For Jehovah thy God hath blessed thee in all the work of thy hand; he hath known thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years Jehovah thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

I know that there is nothing better for them, than to rejoice, and to do good so long as they live.And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God.

Remove far from me falsehood and lies; Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is needful for me:Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is Jehovah? Or lest I be poor, and steal, And use profanely the name of my God.

And he blessed Joseph, and said, The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God who hath fed me all my life long unto this day,

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by everything that proceedeth out of the mouth of Jehovah doth man live.Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.

There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God.For who can eat, or who can have enjoyment, more than I?For to the man that pleaseth him God giveth wisdom, and knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that pleaseth God. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, And look well to thy herds:For riches are not for ever; And doth the crown endure unto all generations?The hay is carried, and the tender grass showeth itself, And the herbs of the mountains are gathered in.The lambs are for thy clothing, And the goats are the price of the field;And there will be goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, And maintenance for thy maidens.
