Paul went first to Derbe and then to Lystra, where there was a young disciple named Timothy. His mother was a Jewish believer, but his father was a Greek.Timothy was well thought of by the believers in Lystra and Iconium,so Paul wanted him to join them on their journey. In deference to the Jews of the area, he arranged for Timothy to be circumcised before they left, for everyone knew that his father was a Greek.

I am not writing these things to shame you, but to warn you as my beloved children.For even if you had ten thousand others to teach you about Christ, you have only one spiritual father. For I became your father in Christ Jesus when I preached the Good News to you.So I urge you to imitate me.That’s why I have sent Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord. He will remind you of how I follow Christ Jesus, just as I teach in all the churches wherever I go.

If the Lord Jesus is willing, I hope to send Timothy to you soon for a visit. Then he can cheer me up by telling me how you are getting along.I have no one else like Timothy, who genuinely cares about your welfare.All the others care only for themselves and not for what matters to Jesus Christ.But you know how Timothy has proved himself. Like a son with his father, he has served with me in preaching the Good News.

I am writing to all of you in Rome who are loved by God and are called to be his own holy people. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

and we sent Timothy to visit you. He is our brother and God’s co worker in proclaiming the Good News of Christ. We sent him to strengthen you, to encourage you in your faith,

Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.

Timothy, my son, here are my instructions for you, based on the prophetic words spoken about you earlier. May they help you fight well in the Lord’s battles.

God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.
