Don’t treat prophecies as if they weren’t important.

Do not despise prophecies,

Do not scoff at prophecies,

Don’t despise prophecies,

do not utterly reject prophecies,

But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouragement, and consolation.The one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up, but the one who prophesies builds up the church.I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be strengthened.Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I help you unless I speak to you with a revelation or with knowledge or prophecy or teaching?

So then, tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers.So if the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and unbelievers or uninformed people enter, will they not say that you have lost your minds?But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or uninformed person enters, he will be convicted by all, he will be called to account by all.The secrets of his heart are disclosed, and in this way he will fall down with his face to the ground and worship God, declaring,“ God is really among you.”

And the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to them, and he took some of the Spirit that was on Moses and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but did not do so again.But two men remained in the camp; one’s name was Eldad, and the other’s name was Medad. And the spirit rested on them.( Now they were among those in the registration, but had not gone to the tabernacle.) Pursue love and be eager for the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.

And if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

Consequently the one who rejects this is not rejecting human authority but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

Afterward you will go to Gibeah of God, where there are Philistine officials. When you enter the town, you will meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place. They will have harps, tambourines, flutes, and lyres, and they will be prophesying.Then the spirit of the LORD will rush upon you and you will prophesy with them. You will be changed into a different person.

So Saul sent messengers to capture David. When they saw a company of prophets prophesying with Samuel standing there as their leader, the spirit of God came upon Saul’s messengers, and they also prophesied.When it was reported to Saul, he sent more messengers, but they prophesied too. When he arrived at the large cistern that is in Secu, he asked,“ Where are Samuel and David?” They said,“ At Naioth in Ramah.”So Saul went to Naioth in Ramah. The Spirit of God came upon him as well, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth in Ramah.He even stripped off his clothes and prophesied before Samuel. He lay there naked all that day and night.( For that reason it is asked,“ Is Saul also among the prophets?”)

When Saul and his servant arrived at Gibeah, a company of prophets was coming out to meet him. Then the spirit of God rushed upon Saul and he prophesied among them.When everyone who had known him previously saw him prophesying with the prophets, the people all asked one another,“ What on earth has happened to the son of Kish? Does even Saul belong with the prophets?”A man who was from there replied,“ And who is their father?” Therefore this became a proverb:“ Is even Saul among the prophets?”When Saul had finished prophesying, he went to the high place.

and when Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they began to speak in tongues and to prophesy.
