for this reason, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and affliction we were comforted about you through your faith;

Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and persecution we were encouraged about you because of your faith.

So we have been greatly encouraged in the midst of our troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith.

For I think, God has exhibited us, the apostles, last of all as men condemned to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to mankind.We are fools on account of Christ, but you are prudent in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are without honor!Up to this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and are poorly clothed and roughly treated and homeless;and we labor, working with our own hands; when we are verbally abused, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;when we are slandered, we reply as friends; we have become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things, even until now.

Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance,persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me!Indeed, all who want to live in a godly way in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

Because of this, we have been comforted. And besides our comfort, we rejoiced even much more for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.

Are they servants of Christ?— I am speaking as if insane— I more so; in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death.Five times I received from the Jews thirty nine lashes.Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent adrift at sea.I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers at sea, dangers among false brothers;I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches.

And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, along with a large number of the God fearing Greeks and a significant number of the leading women.But the Jews, becoming jealous and taking along some wicked men from the marketplace, formed a mob and set the city in an uproar; and they attacked the house of Jason and were seeking to bring them out to the people.When they did not find them, they began dragging Jason and some brothers before the city authorities, shouting,“ These men who have upset the world have come here also;and Jason has welcomed them, and they all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.”They stirred up the crowd and the city authorities who heard these things.And when they had received a pledge from Jason and the others, they released them.The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews.

But God, who comforts the discouraged, comforted us by the arrival of Titus;and not only by his arrival, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted among you, as he reported to us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced even more.

for now we really live, if you stand firm in the Lord.For what thanks can we give to God for you in return for all the joy with which we rejoice because of you before our God,
