We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority.

We were not expecting people to praise us. We were not looking for praise from you or anyone else. Yet as Christ’s apostles, we could have used our authority over you.

Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ.

As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else.

nor did we seek honor from people, either from you or from others, though we could have asserted our authority as apostles of Christ.

Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.

and we didn’t seek glory from people, either from you or from others.

Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor[ yet] of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.

How can you believe, if you accept praise from one another and don’t seek the praise that comes from the only God?

“ I do not accept praise from people,

So, although I have quite a lot of confidence in Christ and could command you to do what is proper,I would rather appeal to you on the basis of love– I, Paul, an old man and even now a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus–

Am I now trying to gain the approval of people, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ!

For you recall, brothers and sisters, our toil and drudgery: By working night and day so as not to impose a burden on any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord?If I am not an apostle to others, at least I am to you, for you are the confirming sign of my apostleship in the Lord.

If others receive this right from you, are we not more deserving? But we have not made use of this right. Instead we endure everything so that we may not be a hindrance to the gospel of Christ.Don’t you know that those who serve in the temple eat food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar receive a part of the offerings?In the same way the Lord commanded those who proclaim the gospel to receive their living by the gospel.But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing these things so that something will be done for me. In fact, it would be better for me to die than– no one will deprive me of my reason for boasting!For if I preach the gospel, I have no reason for boasting, because I am compelled to do this. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward. But if I do it unwillingly, I am entrusted with a responsibility.What then is my reward? That when I preach the gospel I may offer the gospel free of charge, and so not make full use of my rights in the gospel.

For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake.

Do we not have the right to financial support?Do we not have the right to the company of a believing wife, like the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas?Or do only Barnabas and I lack the right not to work?

Now I, Paul, appeal to you personally by the meekness and gentleness of Christ( I who am meek when present among you, but am full of courage toward you when away!)–now I ask that when I am present I may not have to be bold with the confidence that( I expect) I will dare to use against some who consider us to be behaving according to human standards.

The king uttered these words:“ Is this not the great Babylon that I have built for a royal residence by my own mighty strength and for my majestic honor?”

because some say,“ His letters are weighty and forceful, but his physical presence is weak and his speech is of no account.”Let such a person consider this: What we say by letters when we are absent, we also are in actions when we are present.

Haman then recounted to them his fabulous wealth, his many sons, and how the king had magnified him and exalted him over the king’s other officials and servants.

For now we are alive again, if you stand firm in the Lord.For how can we thank God enough for you, for all the joy we feel because of you before our God?

It is not good to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable for people to seek their own glory.

Because of this I am writing these things while absent, so that when I arrive I may not have to deal harshly with you by using my authority– the Lord gave it to me for building up, not for tearing down!

For they loved praise from men more than praise from God.

He displayed the riches of his royal glory and the splendor of his majestic greatness for a lengthy period of time– a hundred and eighty days, to be exact!

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Whether Jews or Greeks or slaves or free, we were all made to drink of the one Spirit.For in fact the body is not a single member, but many.If the foot says,“ Since I am not a hand, I am not part of the body,” it does not lose its membership in the body because of that.

For those who are circumcised do not obey the law themselves, but they want you to be circumcised so that they can boast about your flesh.

Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, being jealous of one another.

Elders who provide effective leadership must be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard in speaking and teaching.

The person who speaks on his own authority desires to receive honor for himself; the one who desires the honor of the one who sent him is a man of integrity, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Neither was man created for the sake of woman, but woman for man.
