對他說：「看哪，你年紀老了，你的兒子又不行你的道。現在請你為我們立一個王治理我們，像列國一樣。」

我們卻是天上的國民，並且等候救主，就是主耶穌基督從天上降臨。

所以主說：「你們務要從他們中間出來，跟他們分別；不要沾不潔淨的東西，我就收納你們。

但我對你們說過，你們要承受他們的土地；我要把這流奶與蜜之地賜給你們，作為你們的產業。我是耶和華－你們的神，是把你們從萬民中分別出來的。你們要分辨潔淨和不潔淨的飛禽走獸；不可因我定為不潔淨的飛禽走獸，或爬行在土地上的任何生物，使自己成為可憎惡的。你們要歸我為聖，因為－我耶和華是神聖的；我把你們從萬民中分別出來，作我的子民。

在盼望中要喜樂；在患難中要忍耐；禱告要恆切。

「因為你是屬於耶和華－你神神聖的子民；耶和華－你的神從地面上的萬民中揀選你，作自己寶貴的子民。

你們若屬世界，世界會愛屬自己的；只因你們不屬世界，而是我從世界中揀選了你們，所以世界就恨你們。

反倒與列國相交，學習他們的行為，

不過，你們是被揀選的一族，是君尊的祭司，是神聖的國度，是屬神的子民，要使你們宣揚那召你們出黑暗入奇妙光明者的美德。
