From the day that the ark was lodged at Kiriath-jearim, a long time passed, some twenty years, and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.

「我要將那施恩與懇求的靈，澆灌大衛家和耶路撒冷的居民。他們必仰望我，就是他們所扎的那位。他們必為他悲傷，如喪獨子，又為他哀哭，如喪長子。那日，在耶路撒冷必有大大的哀號，如米吉多平原上哈達‧臨門的哀號。

因為依着神的意思而憂愁，就生出沒有懊悔的悔改來，以致得救；但世俗的憂愁叫人死。你看，你們依着神的意思而憂愁，這在你們當中產生了何等的殷勤、甚至辯白、甚至憤慨、甚至恐懼、甚至渴望、甚至熱忱、甚至責罰。在這一切事上，你們都表明自己是無可指責的。
