葬在大卫城他为自己凿的坟墓里。民众把他放在堆满精心调制的各种香料的床上，又点了一堆大火向他致哀。

犹大人到希伯仑膏立大卫做犹大支派的王。大卫听说是基列·雅比人埋葬了扫罗，就派人去告诉他们：“你们这样厚待你们的主人扫罗，把他安葬，愿耶和华赐福给你们！愿耶和华以慈爱和信实待你们，我也会厚待你们，因为你们做了这事。现在你们的主扫罗已经死了，犹大支派已经膏立我做他们的王，你们要刚强勇敢。”

亲属抬出尸体焚烧时，必问内屋的人：“你那里还有别人吗？”那人必回答：“没有。”问的人必说：“不要作声，我们不可提耶和华的名。”

你必安然去世。人们必为你烧香，像为你的先王烧香一样，他们必为你哀悼说，唉，我主啊！’这是我耶和华说的。”
