They confronted a man coming out of the town and said to him,“ Show us a way into the town, and we will have mercy on you.”So he showed them a way in, and they killed everyone in the town except that man and his family.

Moses told them,“ This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Each of you, take your swords and go back and forth from one end of the camp to the other. Kill everyone— even your brothers, friends, and neighbors.”The Levites obeyed Moses’ command, and about 3,000 people died that day.

We were on our way back from raiding the Kerethites in the Negev, the territory of Judah, and the land of Caleb, and we had just burned Ziklag.”

I want to rest against them.”Now the temple was completely filled with people. All the Philistine rulers were there, and there were about 3,000 men and women on the roof who were watching as Samson amused them.Then Samson prayed to the Lord,“ Sovereign Lord, remember me again. O God, please strengthen me just one more time. With one blow let me pay back the Philistines for the loss of my two eyes.”Then Samson put his hands on the two center pillars that held up the temple. Pushing against them with both hands,he prayed,“ Let me die with the Philistines.” And the temple crashed down on the Philistine rulers and all the people. So he killed more people when he died than he had during his entire lifetime.

“ Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware,like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth.

When Joshua heard the boisterous noise of the people shouting below them, he exclaimed to Moses,“ It sounds like war in the camp!”But Moses replied,“ No, it’s not a shout of victory nor the wailing of defeat.
