押沙龍在耶路撒冷請了二百人與他同去，都是誠心誠意去的，一點也不知道實情。

耶西就派人去叫他來。他面色紅潤，雙目清秀，容貌俊美。耶和華說：「起來，膏他，因為這就是他了。」撒母耳就用角裏的膏油，在他的兄長中膏了他。從這日起，耶和華的靈就大大感動大衛。撒母耳起身回拉瑪去了。

「你到了耶和華－你神所賜你的地，得了那地居住在其中的時候，若說：『我要立王治理我，像我四圍所有的國家一樣』，你一定要立耶和華－你神所揀選的人為你的王。要從你弟兄中立一人為你的王，不可立你弟兄之外的外邦人治理你。

她們回答說：「有的，看哪，他就在你們前面。快！他今日正來到城裏，因為今日百姓要在丘壇獻祭。你們一進城，他還沒有上丘壇吃祭物之前，就會遇見他。因為他沒有到，百姓不能吃，必須等他先為祭物祝謝，然後受邀的人才可以吃。現在就上去吧，因為這時候你們會遇見他。」

耶穌又用比喻對他們說：「天國好比一個王為他兒子擺設娶親的宴席。他打發僕人去，請那些被邀的人來赴宴，他們卻不肯來。王又打發別的僕人，說：『你們去告訴那被邀的人，我的宴席已經預備好了，牛和肥畜已經宰了，各樣都齊備，請你們來赴宴。』
