Now two hundred men had gone with Absalom from Jerusalem. Since they were invited, they went naively and were unaware of what Absalom was planning.

This is the one!”So Samuel took the horn full of olive oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers. The Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day onward. Then Samuel got up and went to Ramah.

When you come to the land the LORD your God is giving you and take it over and live in it and then say,“ I will select a king like all the nations surrounding me,”you must select without fail a king whom the LORD your God chooses. From among your fellow citizens you must appoint a king– you may not designate a foreigner who is not one of your fellow Israelites.

They replied,“ Yes, straight ahead! But hurry now, for he came to the town today, and the people are making a sacrifice at the high place.When you enter the town, you can find him before he goes up to the high place to eat. The people won’t eat until he arrives, for he must bless the sacrifice. Once that happens, those who have been invited will eat. Now go on up, for this is the time when you can find him!”

Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying:“ The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.He sent his slaves to summon those who had been invited to the banquet, but they would not come.Again he sent other slaves, saying,‘ Tell those who have been invited,“ Look! The feast I have prepared for you is ready. My oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.”’
