While Saul was talking to the priest, the tumult in the Philistine camp increased more and more. So Saul said to the priest,“ Withdraw your hand.”

And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the tumult that was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thy hand.

The Israelites became very hungry that day. That’s because Saul had forced the army to make a promise. He had said,“ None of you must eat any food before evening comes. The Israelites looked over the supplies those people had brought. But they didn’t ask the Lord what they should do.

“ What have you done?” asked Samuel. Saul replied,“ I saw that the men were scattering. I saw that the Philistines were gathering together at Mikmash. You didn’t come when you said you would.

But they soon forgot what he had done. They didn’t wait for what he had planned to happen.

So the Lord and King speaks. He says,“ Look! I am laying a stone in Zion. It is a stone that has been tested. It is the most important stone for a firm foundation. The one who depends on that stone will never be shaken.
